DJ Joshua has published the playlists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station and DJ agency for the region, followed globally by listeners who appreciate quality underground music.
Hailing from Évora in Portugal, Joshua is a devoted collector of electronic music with an archive spanning vinyl, cassette, CD and digital formats. His passion began in his teenage years as he explored House, Drum and Bass, Chill Out and Techno. Long hours spent crate-digging and practising at home helped form the foundation of the broad musical palette he uses today.
In the early nineties, electronic music was still rarely heard on Portuguese radio. Determined to change this, Joshua approached local stations until he secured several residencies. These shows marked the beginning of his role in shaping local electronic music culture and connecting listeners with sounds that were otherwise hard to find.
As his reputation grew, he began hosting events in clubs and bars, sharing his musical vision directly with dancers. After stepping back briefly to focus on family life, he felt the need to return creatively and launched Floating Beats, which soon gained strong international support. Velvety Elements followed shortly after, created to highlight the smoother, deeper and more soulful side of House Music.
Working under his different aliases, including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he has built a varied catalogue across styles. His 2024–2025 output reflects a renewed surge in creativity. Releases such as Nobody Waiting For Me and I Love You under Joshua Marian on Back to the Beat continue to gain attention for their warm, classic House character.
Recent tracks like Just Love and Chance With Soul showcase his ability to combine groove with emotional detail, while his 2025 single Light of Faith under K Joshua introduces a more reflective tone shaped by deep house rhythms and melodic phrasing. In 2024 he founded JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to his own material as well as selected underground artists who share his focus on authenticity, depth and musicality. The label has begun to develop a loyal following, praised for its consistency and attention to detail.
Every week on Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, Joshua brings together a selection of House and Techno sub-genres such as Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Techno, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. Each episode reflects his core belief that music is an art that moves both body and mind, crafted from elements that shift, rise and settle with purpose.
His phrase captures it best: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body. Enjoy it.”
The first hour opens with the warm and dub-soaked flow of Shadowplay before gliding into the hazy atmosphere of Dust. The groove takes on a deeper drive through Lac De Marcenay and the hypnotic lift of Varial Crush, both setting the tone for Joshua’s characteristically immersive approach. The mood tightens with Emerge and the brighter energy of The Morning Song, forming a balanced sequence of dreamy pads and grounded percussion.
The momentum expands as Exo introduces sharper textures, followed by the stripped but effective pulse of Detroit Stab. Atlantic City adds a spacious melodic break in the flow before the tunnelling energy of Into The Past draws the mix back underground. The hour closes with the punch of More Experimentation and the uplifting Detroit-influenced sweep of Universal Language, rounding out a rich spectrum of deep and hypnotic sounds.
The second hour shifts into soulful house territory, opening with the timeless swing of Rain and the warm, floor-friendly rework of Lay Your Soul Down on the Floor. The energy rises with Don’t Think ’Bout It and the bright groove of Lost in Time, both carrying Joshua’s preference for melodic yet understated movement. Tracks like Dat and Always the Same add a sharper edge before the classic house feel of I Need Your Luv reconnects with familiar roots.
Toward the end, the subtle depth of My Town and the playful feel of Jive Talking guide the hour toward a warmer finish. The spiritual uplift of Ekabo and the reflective tone of I’m Waitin soften the atmosphere before Moon Dance brings everything to a smooth landing. Across both hours, the blend of deep house, techno and soulful rhythms captures Joshua’s signature balance of rhythm, texture and emotion.
