Marco Mei has published the tracklist for episode 29 of 2021, originally broadcast on Saturday, the 17th of July. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music news outlet and events promoter serving audiences across Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond.
Marco Mei is an Italian DJ and producer with over thirty years of experience whose career grew from a genuine affection for afrobeat, funk and early synthesised music. Those influences gave his selections a distinctive character from the moment he began DJing in Italy in the early 1990s.
A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh was the turning point that put him on an international circuit. Venues including Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk followed in subsequent years.
He has performed alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void among others. His Facebook page is the best place to follow his current activity.
Bicycle Corporation, the project he formed with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, in 2009, built its foundation through 17:44 Records. Releases on Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox have grown the catalogue to over fifty tracks and remixes across deep house, tech house, French house and techno.
The duo's earliest material is archived and available on Bandcamp. Based in Taipei, Marco plays regularly across South East Asia and continues to develop a network of artists and collaborators throughout the region. Bookings are available through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency.
Marco Mei's 2021 Podcast 29 opens with Jovon's Play for Today in the Ector Nina and Moko Remix, the House Music and Deep House energy of that selection setting a warm tone from the outset. Cinthie's Oh No No No and Sascha Ciminiera's Milla Calls in the Johannes Albert Metro Mix on Frank Music carry the set forward before Róisín Murphy's Narcissus in The Reflex Revision arrives as one of the podcast's more distinctive selections. The Irish vocalist's track, given a Nu Disco and Balearic treatment by The Reflex, sits naturally within the Marco Mei format.
Ewan McVicar's Tell Me Something Good, and Noizu's Summer 91 (Looking Back) in the Catz N Dogz Remix carry the set through House and Tech House territory before Duke Dumont and Channel Tres's Alter Ego on Blasé Boys Club sustains the Tech House direction. Psycho Radio's Oh No Please Don't Let Me Down in the Musumeci and Dodi Palese Remix on Multinotes then introduces a Balearic and Trance quality, Beatport describing the remix as adding a "balearic trance twist" to the 1990s electronic original.
Demuir and Andre Salmon's Women Were Born To Luv delivers a Soulful House and Deep House moment before Junior Sanchez's Keep on Reachin in the Main Mix on Robsoul delivers a Classic House anchor. Tilman's Say Good Bye makes another appearance across the series before Arthur Baker and Rockers Revenge's You Can Do It in Wh0's Disco Sunrise Extended Remix and Flight Facilities's The Ghost in the Gerd Janson Dance Mix sustain the Nu Disco direction.
Peggy Gou's I Go brings a Tech House energy before SUKA's Mano Mano and Kendal and Lapse of Reason's Corpo Meccanico carry the set through House and Melodic House and Techno territory. Joris Biesmans's When Will It Stop 2021 and James Burton's No Longer sustain the melodic and soulful direction before Cratebug's Melondrop in the Chicago Mix delivers a Classic House moment.
Carl Craig's Angel in the Jerome Sydenham Special Edit closes with a Detroit House and Deep House quality, the Belleville Three legend's track given a personal edit by the New York producer. Sascha Funke's MZ provides a Minimal contrast before Sascha Braemer and Dom Fricot's Who Died and Made You King in the Fedele Revenge Mix on Systematic introduces a Melodic House and Techno character.
Slam's Eterna in the John Digweed and Nick Muir Remix closes the podcast on a Progressive House note, the Glasgow duo's track given a treatment by two of the genre's most enduring figures. Marco Mei's 2021 Podcast 29 is a wide-ranging episode that moves between House, Deep House, Nu Disco and Melodic House and Techno across a tracklist that draws from multiple eras and sensibilities throughout.
