Updated: Jul 2

The Boom Bap Show, hosted by DJ Ronsha and G-Zon, is a flagship programme on Scientific Sound Asia, dedicated to preserving the raw essence of authentic Hip-Hop. Broadcasting weekly, the show delivers a potent mix of Boom Bap, Underground Hip-Hop, and Rap, acting as a vital outlet for both seasoned purists and emerging artists. Scientific Sound Asia continues to grow as a respected radio station, DJ agency, and promoter, with a broad international presence across Asia and beyond.

G-Zon has been a pivotal figure in the Parisian rap scene since the 1980s, helping shape the foundation of French Boom Bap. His creative alliance with DJ Ronsha led to the formation of La Meute, a collective known for uncompromising lyricism and gritty production. Together, they’ve championed a sound rooted in tradition while continually pushing creative boundaries.

A key milestone in their evolution was the release of Danse Avec Les Loups, a celebrated project that featured collaborations with major French artists including 20SYL (of Hocus Pocus and C2C) and Black M (of Sexion d’Assaut). The album brought La Meute wider international attention while staying true to its underground ethos.

DJ Ronsha, also based in Paris, is known for his crisp production and deep musical knowledge. As the show’s resident DJ and La Meute’s primary beatmaker, his carefully selected tracks and tight mixes give the show its signature sound. Beyond spinning classics, he consistently shines a light on new talent, reinforcing the culture’s roots while championing its future.

Together, DJ Ronsha and G-Zon have built more than a radio show, they embody a movement. Through their work with La Meute, their live events, and their global collaborations, they continue to connect generations of Hip-Hop fans, ensuring that Boom Bap remains a vital and evolving part of the culture.

Tone Spliff sets the tone with vintage cuts and foundational DJ flair. Early tracks dive into abstract lyricism and street-level darkness, as Tha God Fahim, Lord Goat, and The Doppelgangaz deliver cryptic bars and grime. UK entries like Contrast and Winds Of Change offer balance with introspective commentary. DJ cuts and throwback flows surface with tracks like 97 and I Bomb Atomically, anchoring the episode’s core boom bap spirit.

Midway, cyphers and aggressive cuts dominate the soundscape. Horrorcore narratives mix with cypher showcases in Gore Hounds and Circle Of Goats II. Novatore and Lord Goat push the envelope, while soulful reflections from City Thing and Andare Via soften the tone briefly. Feminist and philosophical voices shine on tracks like The Headline and Be Like Water, and Sadat X lends legacy weight to Chief Cornerstone.

The session’s energy intensifies with storytelling, martial metaphors, and emotional depth. From Noir reflections in Luv Put Me On Tha Corner to chaos in Joker 2 and the conceptual craft of Sealed Envelope, each track adds nuance. UK veterans Leaf Dog and Sonnyjim hold their ground, while political insights, gospel-tinged bars, and mentorship narratives emerge in pieces like Koba Talk, Teach You, and Super Powers.

Closing out, DJ Ronsha & G-Zon bring high-concept lyricism, raw grit, and sonic warmth. Themes of survival, pressure, self-discovery, and legacy round out the mix, as tracks like Drowning, Sun Goes Down, and Gotta Listen offer emotional closure. Boom Bap Show 49 cements its strength through poetic realism, sharp skills, and uncompromising underground curation.
