French DJ and producer DJ King Flow returns with a new edition of Mixtape Addict on Scientific Sound Asia, delivering another selection of underground Hip Hop. The Vietnam-based platform operates as an international radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music news outlet, giving space to artists connected to the core values of Hip Hop culture.

DJ King Flow began DJing at the age of fourteen, developing a style rooted in Boom Bap while keeping a contemporary outlook. Drawing from the foundations of 1990s Hip Hop, his sound stays connected to the present through consistent support for emerging voices from the international underground.

That ability to bridge generations has earned him recognition from listeners and artists worldwide. His career includes collaborations with respected figures such as Ras Kass, Tragedy Khadafi, O.C., Juicy J and Khujo Goodie, reflecting his commitment to preserving and promoting Hip Hop foundations.

Since launching Mixtape Addict in 2015, DJ King Flow has developed the platform into a hub for independent artists. The project combines Hip Hop radio broadcasts, interviews and mixtape releases, strengthening the underground community through regular exposure and artist-focused programming.

Asked for his all-time favourite DJ, Shah Leezy names two New York legends: Funkmaster Flex, whose fearless on-air personality and record-breaking power shaped his childhood, and the late DJ K-Slay, whom he credits not just as a DJ but as a true embodiment of hip hop's five elements.

He recalls listening to K-Slay's Drama King Hour on Hot 97 late at night as a kid, and notes that K-Slay was instrumental in breaking new artists during their New York radio runs. Shah Leezy speaks fondly of the mixtape era, describing the energy of discovering obscure artists buried deep on a tracklist and comparing the mixtape circuit to social media before social media existed.

He has carried that spirit into his own releases, most notably with the Baba Secret Tape project, his first fully self-produced album, which paired streaming singles with a cassette release containing a QR code linking to a private vault of unreleased music, instrumentals and videos. He cites Jay-Z and 50 Cent as his biggest influences in business thinking, pointing to 50 Cent's early use of the mixtape circuit to build buzz and to Jay-Z's corporate approach to running an independent career.

When it comes to advice for upcoming artists, Shah Leezy argues that the digital era has lowered the barrier to entry more than at any point before, and that young artists should prioritise consistency and authenticity over expensive equipment. He is particularly vocal about the value of shooting content on a phone rather than overspending on professional video production, observing that the simplest, most stripped-back content often outperforms polished work because audiences respond to feeling rather than gloss.

On the subject of his own path, Shah Leezy discusses the challenge of navigating an industry where his Middle Eastern background made him an unfamiliar presence early on. He recalls leaning into the identity at first, branding himself as the King of the Middle East to draw attention, before consciously shifting the focus back onto his artistry as he grew.

He describes himself as someone who understands the full 360 process behind making and releasing music, having taught himself engineering, production and video editing by working through real studio experience rather than shortcuts. His current output includes The Boy Who Solved the Universe, a single with Planet Asia featured on his new album Fifth Chamber Philosophy, released the same week as the interview, alongside Hung Jewelry, a separate Planet Asia collaboration, and Halal, a single with Tom LG produced by DJ Infamous Amadeus of the Punchline Academy.
