DJ Loxley, originally from Nottingham, emerged from the heart of the UK’s 1990s rave era, a period defined by hardcore and jungle mixtapes, pirate radio, and the raw excitement of underground parties. Early influences from DJs like DJ Seduction, DJ Hype, Mickey Finn, and Grooverider cemented his deep connection to jungle and drum and bass.
The BBC Radio 1 show “One in the Jungle” with Fabio and Grooverider proved especially formative, shaping his understanding of rhythm, depth, and energy within the genre. While studying at university, Loxley expanded his range into UK Garage, building his reputation through vinyl sets and a weekly residency on Sheffield Live community radio.
After stepping away from the scene for a time, a Marcus Intalex mix reignited his passion in 2012, prompting a renewed commitment to the sound. Artists such as Calibre, Intalex, Fabio, and Marky became key inspirations, guiding his return to record collecting and DJing.
Now based in Asia, where he has spent nearly two decades between Thailand and Vietnam, DJ Loxley represents the full spectrum of drum and bass while emphasising its deeper, more atmospheric side. His sets reflect both the legacy of his formative years and the progressive sound of the modern era, offering audiences an authentic and evolving take on drum and bass culture.
DJ Loxley opens The Deeper Shades 4 with Eusebeia’s Underlying Principles and Kid Drama’s 40 Minutes to Vauxhall, both steeped in rolling breaks and subtle atmospheres, setting a reflective yet powerful tone. Tracks from Unknown Face, Heron Flow, and Calibre follow, bridging minimalism and melody, while Alek W’s Piece (Astral Haze Remix) expands the mood with Omni Music’s signature cinematic ambience. Tokyo Prose and Singr’s Klondike alongside Wagz’s Audition highlight Liquid and Deep Drum & Bass in its most soulful form.
The mid-set turns inward with Stark by Marcus Intalex and Cobalt by Carlito, where metallic textures and fluid basslines merge. Acid Lab’s Timelines and Sample Theory from Unknown Face & Need Fo blend ruggedness and rhythm, followed by Cloud Lord’s Hot Wheels and B4sstee’s Enzyme, pushing into the energetic yet refined corners of contemporary Liquid Funk. Walk:r and Silence Groove provide warmth with Breathe and Love Is The Key, balancing emotive chords and delicate breaks.
As the intensity rises, Harland’s Moon (Mark System Remix) and Feel This Pain by 78 Degrees move toward atmospheric tension, before heavier cuts from Xtrah, Digital, and Amit shift the sound into darker terrain. Module Eight’s Rudeboy and Ink & Architex’s Iron Fist deliver rugged, minimalist Techstep grooves, contrasting with the intricate precision of Sonar’s Ghost & Outrage’s Even So and Mako’s The Narrator. The section anchored by Gremlinz, Jesta, and Molecular reflects the fusion between modern Deep DnB and classic Metalheadz craftsmanship.
Goldie’s Express Your Soul signals a timeless turn, combining soul-infused rhythm and deep production flair, while Mineral’s Shaolin and Loxy & Resound’s Dunn’s River Falls blend breakbeat subtlety and emotional restraint. The final stretch intensifies with Ink, Gremlinz, Sin & Skunkworks on Guardians, and ESC’s Black Hole, both drenched in raw tension. Closing moments arrive through Acid Lab’s Past Echoes, Mantra’s Come Undone, and No More by Inner Terrain, each reinforcing Loxley’s focus on depth, continuity, and refined artistry across the Drum & Bass spectrum.
Tune into the live broadcast on Thursday, October 23rd, between 8 PM and 10 PM Indochina Time (ICT). A replay will be available on Monday from 8 AM to 10 AM (ICT).
