Bicycle Corporation has published the tracklist for episode 175 of Roots on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is the long-running Italian duo formed by Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884. Their catalogue spans over fifty tracks and remixes across French house, deep house, tech house and techno, with a back catalogue of earlier material available through their Bandcamp page.

Marco Mei began his career in the early 1990s working with the Urban People collective, building a reputation as a selector and event organiser across Italy before international bookings followed and extended his reach across the globe.

Stefano Ugliano grew up in Turin showing an early aptitude for music, studying classical piano, percussion and drums and developing a deep appreciation for composers including Chopin alongside the rhythmic traditions of West African djembe. As a teenager, he became captivated by DJ culture at a time when those sounds were rarely heard on Italian radio, and that fascination eventually drew him fully into electronic music production and performance.

Together the pair have built Bicycle Corporation from a shared passion for underground electronic music into a project with a genuinely international reach. Roots reflects that breadth, exploring the records, artists and influences that have shaped their approach to music across decades.

Bicycle Corporation Roots 175 opens with Eddy Grant's Time Warp on Portrait, the Barbadian-British musician's Synth-pop and Electro-Funk hybrid setting a warm and rhythmically adventurous tone. David Sylvian and Japan's Canton on Virgin follows, the art rock group's New Wave and Synth-pop sensibility sitting naturally alongside Kraftwerk's Trans Europa Express on Kling Klang, the Düsseldorf group's 1977 electronic masterpiece arriving as one of the most historically significant selections in the episode.

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells on Virgin represents a very different strand of the same era's experimental musical ambition, the 1973 prog rock landmark providing a sharp contrast to the more electronic selections surrounding it. Klein and M.B.O.'s Dirty Talk in the European Connection Instrumental on Siamese then delivers an Italo Disco moment before SPACE's Magic Fly in the Greg Wilson and Peza Mix on Tirk Records introduces a contemporary edit perspective on a 1977 French electronic classic.

Steve Hillage's Before The Storm on Virgin and Steve Miller Band's Macho City on Capitol Records develop the Prog Rock and Rock Funk direction before Tangerine Dream's Going West on EMI America arrives as the episode's second major Berlin-School electronic statement. The Sisters Of Mercy's The Phantom on Merciful Release delivers a Goth Rock moment rooted in the Leeds post-punk underground before The Splash Band's The End in Remix form on ZYX Records and The Tubes' Drums on Capitol Records carry the set through Synth-pop and Prog Rock territory.

Will Powers's Adventures In Success on Island Records is one of the episode's more eclectic selections, the 1983 track's blend of Novelty, Dub, Downtempo and Synth-pop reflecting the period's appetite for genre experimentation. X R 7's X R 7 Instrumental on Quality and Michael Shrieve's Transfer Station Blue on Fortuna Records carry the set through Synth-pop and Berlin-School Fusion territory before Heaven 17's I'm Your Money on Virgin makes another appearance across the Bicycle Corporation series, the Sheffield group's Electro and Synth-pop sensibility as distinctive here as in any of its previous outings.

Herb Alpert's Bullish in the Monster Funk Mix on A&M Records delivers a Latin Jazz and Electro moment before Hawkwind's Time Centre on Flicknife Records brings Space Rock and Psychedelic Rock energy to the episode. Tony Banks's Charm on Charisma, released under the Genesis keyboardist's solo name, and Tri Atma Und Gyan Nishabda's Natürliche Liebe on Erdenklang carry the set through Soft Rock and New Age territory, the latter's Hindustani influences sitting as one of the most globally distinctive selections of the episode.

The The's Giant on Epic and Anna's Systems Breaking Down on RCA sustain the New Wave and Electronica direction before Anne Clark's Our Darkness on Dark Entries closes the episode on a Synth-pop note. The British spoken-word artist and electronic musician's track is a fitting conclusion to Bicycle Corporation Roots 175, an episode that draws on a remarkably wide range of early electronic and post-punk music across three decades and multiple continents.
