Bicycle Corporation announce DJ Her for their new Electronic Roots episode 1

Bicycle Corporation introduce guest DJ HER for episode 1 of Electronic Roots on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter publishing music news and connecting artists and audiences across Asia and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is the Italian duo formed by Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884. Since coming together in 2009, they have built a catalogue of over fifty releases and remixes spanning deep house, tech house, French house and techno, establishing a consistent presence within the international underground scene.

Marco Mei began his career in the early 1990s through events organised with the Urban People collective across Italy. That period shaped his identity as a selector and led to a residency at Pacha in Sharm-El-Sheikh, which opened the door to international bookings across Europe, Asia and beyond.

Stefano Ugliano grew up in Turin with a formal musical education spanning classical piano, percussion and drums, drawing from composers including Chopin alongside the rhythmic traditions of West African percussion. As electronic music culture developed across Europe, he moved increasingly towards DJing and production, eventually dedicating his focus to the underground scene.

Their productions have appeared on labels including Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox, with support from DJs across the international circuit. Electronic Roots brings together influences from across electronic music, maintaining a focus on depth, selection and the cultural roots that continue to shape the global underground.

DJ HER, real name Chen Her, is a DJ, producer and co-director of Our Muzik Records, a Taiwanese electronic music label. She began her music career in 2016, drawn initially to house music before developing a deeper connection with techno and its darker, more textural qualities.

Her sound moves fluidly between house and techno, built around psychedelic and dreamy melodies with bright, clean tones. Vocal elements and subtle oriental influences appear throughout her productions, adding a personal and distinctive character to her output. Her performances are a regular fixture at underground events across Taiwan.

Recent releases illustrate the breadth of her studio work. My Dark Tears on her own Our Muzik Records sits within melodic house and techno, while Daddy's Lil and Lucifer's Love on Neu Gravity move into tech house territory. Nothing Is 4Ever and Golden Buddha Eyes, both released on Invert in August 2021, push into peak time techno, demonstrating a producer comfortable working across multiple areas of the electronic music spectrum.

Her Mixcloud documents a body of work built around layered textures and evolving arrangements, and her full Beatport catalogue reflects a consistent focus on texture, mood and musical progression both in the studio and behind the decks.

Bicycle Corporation's Electronic Roots 1 with DJ Her launches with its very first episode, handing the controls to DJ HER for a set that establishes the show's sonic character immediately. JC Laurent's Silence as Weapon opens with a focused and atmospheric Techno quality before Pascual's Spatial and NØ Shelter's 191.2 develop a deeper Minimal Techno direction.

Lathe's Trip To Goja and Anome's Sona carry the set into Deep Techno and Hypnotic Techno territory, the latter artist contributing four tracks across the episode and emerging as one of its defining voices. Hardware's Let's Go and Tramtunnel's Hydrofluoric Acid in Ray La Soul's Flux Capacitor Mix sustain the raw underground direction before Hannes Bieger, Sailor and I's Chemistry in the Dub introduces a Melodic House and Techno and Dub Techno quality.

Finalversion3's Boca Que Arrastra Mi Boca and JC Laurent's Through Differences return to the deeper and more hypnotic Techno thread before Habgud and Kwartz's Hourglass in the Kwartz Remix2 shifts back into Minimal Techno territory. Victor Calderone's Condensed on On Edge Society arrives as the set's most recognisable name, the veteran New York DJ's own label providing a characteristically Dark Techno selection.

Reggy Van Oers contributes two consecutive tracks, Shunned and Untitled X2, before Freak Unique's Invasion and Dub Taylor's Ground Light develop the dub-inflected qualities that run through the episode's mid-section. Truncate's Good Morning V1 then provides the set's most direct and driving moment, a brief but effective shift into Peak Time Techno territory.

Anome's Mount Royal and Simon Berry's Rogue Planet return the set to Raw and Hypnotic Techno before Pascual's Bodily and Joachim Spieth's Dark Matter in the D. Diggler Remix on Affin develop the Dub Techno strand further. Described on Bandcamp as exploring "deeply atmospheric techno" with dubby chords and subtle percussive escalations, the Spieth and Diggler collaboration is one of the episode's more considered and textured selections.

Anome's Daleký and ZRK's Hiatus carry the set into its final stretch before Dub Taylor's Distance sustains the dub-influenced direction. Anome's Ndërfutur in the Radiorobotek and Mielafon Remix, Radiorobotek's Kupchino Deep, Zetacode's Loading and Ak (BE)'s Incertitude close the episode across a run of Minimal Techno and Dub Techno selections that bring Electronic Roots Episode 01 to a measured and unhurried conclusion.

DJ HER's selection for the inaugural episode is a thorough introduction to the show's underground identity, drawing from a tight network of artists and labels that prioritise atmosphere, depth and restraint over spectacle.
