DJ Joshua has published the playlists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows. Scientific Sound Asia continues to operate as a leading Asian electronic music station, promoter and DJ agency, reaching a global audience through its broadcasts and artist network.

DJ Joshua, born and based in Évora, Portugal, has been immersed in electronic music culture since the 1990s. A dedicated collector and selector, he owns an extensive archive spanning vinyl, CDs, cassettes and digital formats, a reflection of decades spent exploring underground sound from multiple angles.

As a teenager, Joshua became deeply absorbed in genres such as House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and Techno. Countless hours were spent crate-digging in record shops and refining his skills at home, developing a broad musical understanding that still defines his approach today. At a time when electronic music was largely absent from Portuguese radio, his enthusiasm pushed him to engage directly with local stations. Through persistence and patience, he secured radio residencies and began introducing underground electronic sounds to a wider audience.

His involvement soon expanded beyond radio into local clubs and bars, where he organised events and shared his musical vision with close collaborators and growing dancefloor communities. Following the birth of his first child, Joshua stepped back from the scene, focusing on family life before eventually returning with renewed clarity and purpose.

That return marked the launch of Floating Beats, a radio show and podcast that quickly gained international recognition for its melodic, progressive and deeper electronic direction. As the project evolved, Joshua introduced Velvety Elements, a sister series dedicated to the warmer, deeper and more soulful side of house music. Both shows are now syndicated across multiple platforms and stations worldwide.

Alongside his radio work, Joshua has entered a particularly active creative phase in the studio. Working across several aliases, he explores distinct musical identities. As K-Joshua, his Hopeful Mind EP delivered emotive deep house. Under the Joshua Fernand name, Logic Move moved into hypnotic and raw techno territory.

His Joshua Marian project has focused on soulful, groove-led house, with releases such as Nobody Waiting For Me, Just Love and Chance With Soul. As Joshua Onairam, he has explored cinematic and melodic textures, including Melodic Doubts and the 2025 release Shiny Night, which blends progressive flow with emotional depth.

In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own productions while supporting underground artists who value authenticity, musical depth and long-form expression. Together, his radio work and label activity reflect a consistent commitment to meaningful electronic music culture.

Joshua summarises his philosophy simply: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that conveys emotion and makes the body move. This is a place where sounds can float and eventually fall onto your body. Enjoy it.”

Across Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, Joshua regularly explores Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno, shaping each episode as a carefully paced journey rooted in feeling, groove and musical integrity.

The first hour opens with a nod to classic club culture as Club Beat 3 by Big Miz and Uplink Underground from ES-Q inject acid house energy into the mix. Deep house warmth follows through Your Feelings and Excursion, while Kerri Chandler’s remix of Last Summer adds soulful weight and timeless swing, grounding the early flow in groove-driven house aesthetics.

As the set progresses, tension increases with Eclipse by Trevino and the Detroit-inflected cut of Dance from Confidential Recipe. Tracks like Shapes by Private Press maintain hypnotic pressure, before Rebuke’s remix of Thoughts and Got You by Pablo-T push firmly into peak time territory. Cinthie’s raw remix of H.O.Y.L. closes the first hour with driving intensity and stripped-back techno focus.

The second hour shifts toward a deeper, more soulful palette as Whos Who by Human By Nature and In Yo Soul by Norm Talley establish a classic house foundation. Deep house remains central through Enrico Mantini, Nick Holder and Kevin Yost, while Tony Humphries’ dub of Leash Called Love introduces a subtle indie dance flavour with vintage club attitude.

Minimal and deep tech textures appear through Archie Hamilton and Jesse Maas, adding restraint and groove between fuller house moments. The closing stretch, led by Summer Downtown and Mind Drifting, brings the session full circle with warm, rolling house rhythms, leaving the listener with a cohesive blend of underground depth, dancefloor energy and timeless club sensibility.
