DJ Joshua has released the latest playlists for his weekly radio shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, the platform continues to operate as a leading Asian electronic music station and DJ agency with a strong international audience.

DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ from Évora whose passion for electronic music centres on collecting and DJing. He has built an extensive music library across vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats, forming the backbone of his wide-ranging and considered approach behind the decks.

From his teenage years, Joshua immersed himself in electronic music, collecting styles such as House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and Techno. Countless hours spent crate-digging in record shops were matched by even more time at home, practising and exploring his collection, a dedication that remains a defining quality of his DJ identity.

At a time when underground electronic music had little presence on Portuguese airwaves, Joshua actively pushed local radio stations to support these sounds. His persistence led to multiple residencies, marking the beginning of his broadcasting journey and allowing him to share his enthusiasm with a growing community of listeners.

As his involvement deepened, Joshua also began hosting events and playing in local clubs and bars alongside close collaborators. Following the birth of his first child, he stepped away from DJing for a period to focus on family life, temporarily placing music on hold.

That pause ultimately led to a renewed creative direction. As his daughter grew older, Joshua returned with the launch of Floating Beats, a new radio show created as an outlet for his ongoing love of electronic music. The series quickly developed an international following and is now broadcast on platforms and stations worldwide.

Seeking a more intimate and groove-led expression of his taste, Joshua later introduced Velvety Elements. This second weekly show focuses on deeper and more soulful strands of house music, complementing the melodic and atmospheric direction of Floating Beats. Together, both programmes are now transmitted across a wide selection of international platforms.

Joshua summarises his philosophy simply: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotion and make the body move. This is a place where sounds can float and eventually fall onto your body. Enjoy it.”

Across his weekly broadcasts, DJ Joshua explores a broad spectrum of house and techno, regularly featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno, always guided by flow, emotion and musical depth.

Floating Beats 531 opens firmly rooted in classic US deep house, with Underground Solution’s Deep In My Mind and Lovechild’s Sweet Ambience drawing on the timeless Strictly Rhythm sound. Eric Kupper’s K-Scope project continues the spiritual tone, blending tribal rhythm with melodic depth.

The energy subtly shifts as Samuel L Session’s remix of Velvet introduces tech house swing, before Vince Watson’s remix of Beechjet restores emotional, melodic warmth. Midway through the hour, Dave Angel’s Take-Off and Black Scorpion’s Teknitron inject stripped, futuristic techno, nodding to 90s Detroit and European machine funk.

Progressive movement enters with Whisper in Samuel L Session’s remix, while P.L.C.’s Shame and Ron Trent’s Altered States pull the mix back into deep, soulful hypnosis. The hour closes on Detroit lineage with Paperclip People’s Clear & Present, balancing techno precision with house sensibility.

Velvety Elements 103 focuses on vocal-driven and groove-centric deep house, opening with Centric House’s Alright Alright in the Daydream remix. Cuba Gooding’s Happiness Is Just Around The Bend follows with soulful optimism, setting a warm, human tone.

Enrico Mantini’s I Wanna Tell You and Mone’s We Can Make It reinforce classic 90s deep house foundations, while Sound Of One’s As I Am adds garage-tinged swing. Politix Of Dancing’s Be Free keeps the uplifting momentum flowing.

The progressive edge appears briefly through Way Out West’s Ajare, before the set leans into funk and late-night attitude with Thermo Statik’s Women Beat Their Men and 24 Hour Experience’s Allnighter. Idjut Boys’ Jesta Funk closes the show with dubby, off-kilter deep house character.
