DJ Joshua has released the tracklists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station, promoter and DJ agency for the region, with an international following.

DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese artist from Évora with a lifelong dedication to collecting and sharing electronic music. His extensive archive spans vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats, a reflection of decades spent immersed in underground culture and sound exploration.

Growing up in the 1990s, Joshua developed an early obsession with electronic music, collecting and studying genres such as house, techno, drum and bass and chillout. Much of his time was spent crate digging in record shops and refining his skills at home on turntables, building a deep understanding of musical structure, rhythm and mood.

At a time when electronic music had little presence on Portuguese radio, Joshua actively pushed for underground representation. His persistence led to multiple radio residencies, allowing him to share his musical vision and help introduce new audiences to deeper electronic sounds. Alongside radio, he began organising events and playing at local clubs and bars, strengthening connections within the community.

Following the birth of his first child, Joshua stepped away from music to focus on family life. As his daughter grew older, the need for creative expression returned, leading to the launch of Floating Beats. The show quickly gained international traction and is now broadcast across multiple online platforms and stations worldwide. This was followed by Velvety Elements, a second weekly series dedicated to warmer, deeper and more soulful expressions of house music.

Alongside his radio work, Joshua has built a growing catalogue of productions released under several aliases, each representing a distinct creative direction. As Joshua Marian, his Nobody Waiting For Me EP released in 2024 on Back to the Beat delivered an organ-driven title track rooted in classic house, alongside the nostalgic and emotive I Love You. Follow-up releases such as Just Love and Chance With Soul expanded this sound further, balancing groove, warmth and emotional detail.

Under the K Joshua alias, his 2025 single Light of Faith introduced a more introspective deep house approach, combining melodic phrasing with forward-moving rhythm. As Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore cinematic and melodic textures, with releases such as Melodic Doubts and Shiny Night reflecting a growing focus on atmosphere, narrative and emotional flow within progressive and melodic frameworks.

In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own music while collaborating with underground artists who share his commitment to authenticity, depth and musical integrity. The label mirrors the ethos of his radio shows, prioritising expression, quality and long-term artistic vision over trends.

Through Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to present a broad yet cohesive selection of house and techno styles. His weekly shows regularly feature deep house, tech house, melodic house, soulful house, progressive house, vocal house, melodic techno and techno, always shaped by careful selection and emotional continuity.

As Joshua describes it himself, “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotion and make the body move. This is a place where sounds float and eventually fall onto your body.”

Floating Beats 529 opens the session with a reflective and atmospheric tone, where Snow Day and Dolunay establish a balance between deep house warmth and hypnotic techno tension. The early flow moves smoothly between introspective grooves and darker textures, with The Dossier and Locked reinforcing a deep, late-night mood that draws the listener inward.

As the first hour develops, melodic and driving elements begin to surface. The Sun Is Here and Lotus introduce emotional lift and melodic clarity, while Rath Of The Synods and Voyager push the energy forward with peak-time intent. These selections maintain control and restraint, allowing the intensity to build without losing the hypnotic core of the mix.

Velvety Elements 101 shifts the focus back toward soulful depth and groove-led house. Tracks such as Sfumato, A New Day, and Intimate bring a warmer, more tactile feel, blending classic house sensibilities with modern deep house production. The groove remains fluid and expressive, emphasising rhythm and subtle musical detail.

The second hour closes with a refined sequence of deep house and minimal influences, where Light of Day and Computer Cat gently guide the set toward a smooth conclusion. Together, Floating Beats 529 and Velvety Elements 101 highlight DJ Joshua’s ability to connect techno, house, and deep house into a coherent two-hour journey that feels balanced, thoughtful, and timeless.
