Velvety Elements returns with a new edition hosted by DJ Joshua on Scientific Sound Asia. The platform operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, while also publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.

Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has remained closely connected to electronic music culture since the 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to underground sound and DJ culture, shaping an approach grounded in both experience and ongoing musical exploration.

Although his musical journey has moved through techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music continues to remain central to his artistic identity. His sets focus on groove, soul and emotional depth, maintaining a strong connection between classic house foundations and contemporary electronic influences while balancing dancefloor energy with atmosphere and musical subtlety.

During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground electronic scene, Joshua remained active through event organisation and collaborations with fellow artists, helping sustain local music culture while reinforcing his long-term role within the community. These experiences continue influencing the thoughtful and carefully structured nature of his DJ sets and productions today.

After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed direction through his online radio show Floating Beats. The series evolved into a recognised platform for melodic and forward-thinking electronic music, allowing him to further develop a more immersive and narrative-driven approach to DJing and underground electronic storytelling.

Velvety Elements later emerged as a complementary project focused on deeper and more soulful interpretations of house music. The show explores warm textures, flowing arrangements and understated groove, reflecting a more introspective and refined side of his musical identity while remaining firmly rooted in underground house culture.

Working across aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues exploring multiple creative paths. Each alias highlights a different aspect of his sound, ranging from groove-led deep house and melodic club music through to hypnotic techno, dub textures and cinematic electronic compositions.

Recent releases under the Joshua Marian alias continue reinforcing his connection to Deep House. Tracks such as Just Love, Express Your Voice, Ring For More and Go Slow combine rolling grooves with restrained melodic phrasing and balanced rhythmic structure. Releases through labels including Yesenia, Jazz In Da House, Agua Salada Records and Wanda reflect a clear focus on atmosphere, subtle progression and musical depth.

In contrast, his K-Joshua productions move further into darker and more experimental territory. Projects such as Promised Work on Kopoc and Stranger Things on dublucid explore Raw / Deep / Hypnotic Techno and dub-influenced sound design through repetition, texture and immersive atmosphere. Releases including Slow Laziness and Walk Slow also extend into Minimal / Deep Tech and Ambient territory, highlighting the broader range and flexibility of his studio work.

In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as a platform for his own productions while also supporting underground artists and collaborative projects. The label continues developing as an independent outlet centred on creative freedom, underground values and long-term artistic growth within electronic music culture.

Through Velvety Elements, DJ Joshua brings these influences together into a cohesive and carefully structured journey. Each episode reflects a balance between deep house warmth, underground groove and broader electronic experimentation, maintaining a clear emphasis on flow, atmosphere and emotional connection while continuing to evolve through experience and artistic exploration.

Velvety Elements 316 by DJ Joshua opens with Borrowed Identity alongside Mechanical Soul Brother with Ruhephase In D-Moll, immediately establishing a warm underground House atmosphere. Desos continues the groove through Farmand before Jimpster’s Far Side introduces deeper melodic textures and smooth rolling percussion.

Joshua Marian adds his own production I Can Go, You Can See, bringing a flowing Deep House atmosphere with subtle rhythmic progression. Kevin Yost’s Why Me and Sascha Dive’s There Is No Tomorrow continue the late-night groove with soulful textures and stripped-back underground energy.

DJ Steaw’s The Truth Is Out There, and Hersey’s Together Now maintain the deeper direction with groove-led percussion and warm melodic layers. James Dexter follows with Delight, keeping the session rooted firmly in smooth Deep House rhythms and understated club-focused production.

The closing section moves through Lulah Francs’ Fortune’s Fool, briefly shifting toward a fuller House groove before Manuel Kane’s House Music (Is Lived) restores the deeper atmosphere. Danny Howells, alongside Dilby close the episode with Flyover, ending the session with a rich Deep House finish built around hypnotic grooves and atmospheric late-night textures.

Tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it, the replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
