DJ Joshua has published the playlists for his latest Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station, promoter and DJ agency for the region with a global following.

DJ Joshua is a Portuguese native hailing from Évora. His lifelong dedication to electronic music is reflected in a collection spanning vinyl, CDs, tapes and digital formats, and he continues to expand it with new releases every month for his shows and for his own productions.

As a teenager, he absorbed genres such as House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and Techno, spending countless hours practising at home and digging for music. With electronic music scarcely represented on Portuguese airwaves at the time, Joshua pushed local stations to feature the sounds he loved, eventually earning several residencies and starting his journey on radio.

He later branched into events, performing regularly in local clubs and bars and sharing his expanding collection. When his daughter was born, he stepped back from performing, but his passion for electronic music returned stronger than ever.

This led to the creation of Floating Beats, which quickly found an international audience. As his reputation grew, Joshua began receiving regular promos from global labels and eventually launched his own outlet, JFLM Recordings, a platform dedicated to Melodic House & Techno and deeper shades of House.

Under his monikers Joshua Marian, K-Joshua and Joshua Fernand, he has released new material over the past few years, including melodic-leaning singles, deeper atmospheric cuts and remixes, many of which have been featured in his weekly shows.

Following the success of Floating Beats, he introduced Velvety Elements to showcase the warmer and more soulful end of his collection. The show continues to evolve, often featuring upcoming producers, pre-release material and new tracks Joshua signs through his label’s network of collaborators.

In recent years, Joshua has expanded his studio work, releasing a series of melodic and progressive tracks that have gained rotation on international stations and mixes. His latest productions draw on Deep Tech, Melodic House and Progressive House influences, with subtle nods to Detroit and European minimalism. He has also collaborated with other Portuguese and international artists, contributing remixes and joint projects that echo his long-standing love for deeper electronic moods.

Joshua reflects on his approach with the statement: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that conveys emotion and makes the body move. This is a place where sounds can float and fall onto your body, enjoy it.”

In his weekly shows, Joshua delves into a mixture of House Music and Techno sub-genres, frequently featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. Alongside his curation, listeners can expect to hear Joshua’s newest studio material, label promos, and fresh releases from artists he supports, keeping both series firmly rooted in the present.

Floating Beats 532 eases in with Eric Kupper’s chasing dharma, its melodic pursuit evoking his 1990s New York deep house innovations on TWISTED’s tribal roots, before Rhythm and Soul’s la jazzete infuses groovy horns from Doppelgaenger’s jazzy underground. Brian De Palma’s once were dancers contemplates dubby introspection on Gudu Records’ 2022 EP, Javier Labarca’s kino loops hypnotically in Cyclic Records’ minimal Chilean precision since the 2010s, and DJ Honesty’s moment stretches soulfully through Losoul’s dub remix on Bass Culture’s Berlin deep canon.

Mancini’s music solves anger channels funky vocal resolve in unreleased form, Boo Williams’s eternal mind swings Chicago-style on Rush Hour’s 2010 archival gem, a nod to his 1990s Warehouse heyday, while Scope’s break it down rallies classic upbeat energy without a fixed home. Lovechild’s sweet ambience drifts ambiently on Strictly Rhythm’s 1990 pioneer soil, and Trecci and Southsoniks’s experimentation peaks through Jules Wells’s driving techno remix on Rebeat’s French warehouse vibe from 2022.

Velvety Elements 104 blooms with Gavinco’s much love, its jazzy uplift from Houseum Records’ 2020 Interflow EP grounding the hour’s soulful turn, Kaysoul’s behind one grooves steadily on Rogue Decibels’ deep South African flows. Enrico Mantini’s don’t think about it hooks classically on Traxx Underground’s 2013 reissue, Ritz’s empathy builds emotive pads on Piston Recordings’ Portuguese melodic tradition, and Ralphi Rosario’s ee-ah song energises garage piano from S&S Records’ fresh 2024 cut, his Hot Mix 5 legacy alive.

Leko On Pluto’s with you teleports cosmic soul on Moiss Music Black’s 2023 spacey depths, Joselacruz’s hee percusses funky on Sonambulos Muzic’s 2021 Spanish heat, Crackazat’s alfa jazzed by Rick Wade’s broken swing on Heist Recordings’ 2021 EP, and Bernardo Mota’s always the same loops disco funk on Fresh Take Records’ timeless groove.

Manuel Kane’s your heart tugs emotional melodies on Cyanide’s 2025 deep, Franck Roger’s p’s retreat retreats disco-deep on Real Tone Records’ 2022 French imprint, Adrian Matos’s something ’bout you grooves discofied on Piston Recordings’ 2022 EP, and Rick Wade’s stay stay lingers jazzy through Guri’s Unknown Season remix, sealing nocturnal intimacy.

DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats 532 and Velvety Elements 104 fuse jazzy deep house’s timeless swing with cosmic soul and funky grooves, a masterful two-hour tapestry of Chicago pioneers and global underground voices that pulses with enduring emotional depth.
