Marco Mei has published the tracklist for episode 4 of 2021, broadcast on Saturday, the 23rd of January. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music news outlet and events promoter specialising in electronic music across Asia, with audiences in Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond.
Marco Mei is an Italian DJ and producer with over three decades of experience. Growing up around afrobeat and early synthesised music, he began DJing in the early 1990s and has since played clubs and festivals across the globe.
Shared bills with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void built his international reputation during those years. A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh followed, leading to appearances at Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk among others.
In 2009 he formed Bicycle Corporation with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, a production project rooted in house and techno. Signed to 17:44 Records, their output has spanned labels including Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox, with over fifty tracks and remixes earning support from Sneak, Mauro Picotto, Dubfire, Axwell, Danny Tenaglia and Above and Beyond.
Marco is based in Taipei, where his party Ciao Taipei helped establish his presence in the local scene and connected him to a broader network of artists across South East Asia. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia radio station and DJ agency. Follow him on Facebook.
Marco Mei's show from 23rd January 2021 opens with Billie Ray Martin's Your Loving Arms, the German vocalist's 1994 hit given a Nu Disco reframing that sets a warm, groove-led tone from the outset. Paul Johnson's I Remember then grounds the set firmly in Chicago House tradition before HDSN's Get Together and Folkness's 80s Revenge sustain the Nu Disco momentum.
John Julius Knight and Roland Clark's The Underground in the Marco Faraone Extended Remix and DJ Deeon's 2 B Free provide two contrasting moments of Chicago House energy before James Burton's Breakfast Club in the Dennis Ferrer Morning Mix arrives as one of the more Soulful House selections of the show. Housewerk and Ducamp's Go Around sustains the House direction before CamelPhat and Green Velvet's Critical shifts back into Tech House territory.
Andrea Oliva's Rampling and Stefano Kosa's Tigghy in the Alvaro Smart Extended Remix continue the Tech House direction before Wade's Charles On Acid adds an acid-inflected edge. Anturage and Alexey Union's Bad Romance in the Damon Jee Remix on Disco Halal then introduces a warm Organic House quality that briefly shifts the mood before Bell Towers's Want You (Need You) in the Adam Port Remix returns to Nu Disco and Deep House territory.
Angelov's Tesera and Adam Sellouk and OMZ's Higher carry the show towards its close, the latter providing a second Soulful House moment before Tim Jackiw's Bass Equations sustains the House energy. Patrick Cowley's Megatron in the Pleasure Voyage Italo Retouch closes the episode on a Disco and Italo Disco note, the San Francisco producer's posthumous legacy reframed here within a contemporary context.
