DJ Joshua has published the track lists for his new Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows this Monday. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music station, promoter and DJ Agency for Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, real name Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese collector and lifelong enthusiast of electronic music, and this passion defines him completely. Growing up in Évora, he developed an early fascination with a wide spectrum of electronic styles, from House to Drum and Bass, Chill-out and Techno, shaping the foundations of the artist he is today.
His long-running show Floating Beats allowed him to explore melodic, progressive and atmospheric elements alongside deeper and more driving shades of Techno. The second-hour programme, Velvety Elements, expands on this identity by focusing purely on the softest, warmest and most soulful strands of House music, offering a contrasting yet complementary approach to his weekly broadcasts.
He began mixing in the early nineties and quickly became a committed vinyl collector. His early career took shape on local Portuguese radio, where he played almost every form of electronic music. Alongside friends, he organised House and Techno events during the rise of Portugal’s rave movement, recognising how radio could serve as a bridge between underground sounds and new listeners.
After stepping away from the scene to embrace fatherhood, Joshua eventually returned with renewed purpose. Floating Beats Sessions emerged from this new chapter, built around his desire to share music that carried both emotional weight and rhythmic movement. This later grew into two international weekly shows that now enjoy strong followings across multiple platforms and partner stations.
Joshua also produces under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, each one offering a different facet of his creative expression. In 2024, he established JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to showcasing his own productions alongside underground artists who share his love for texture, depth and authenticity.
Recent releases highlight strong momentum in his studio work. His Joshua Marian EP, Nobody Waiting For Me on Back to the Beat featured organ-driven grooves and classic house sensibilities. Tracks such as Just Love and Chance With Soul continued to demonstrate his natural ability to blend rhythm with emotional detail. In 2025, his K-Joshua single Light of Faith introduced a more introspective tone shaped by deep house percussion and subtle melodic phrasing. His ongoing releases across his aliases continue to reinforce his reputation for warm, expressive, detail-rich production.
Joshua summarises his approach simply: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body, enjoy it.”
In his weekly shows, he explores a wide range of House and Techno sub-genres, frequently featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Techno, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. His podcasts and mixes continue to be broadcast around the world, reaching an international audience that connects strongly with his musical vision.
The opening hour of Floating Beats 442 eases in with the subtle, swelling synths of Lenny Middles's track, setting a contemplative tone that builds into the glitchy abstractions of 100to before Emmanuel Jal and Henrik Schwarz inject rhythmic urgency with percussive layers drawn from global influences. Dave Seaman follows with a driving pulse that anchors the flow, while Edu Imbernon and Raxon layer emotive melodies over rolling grooves, evoking a sense of progression rooted in Ibiza's club heritage from the mid-2010s.
ANTOS adds a dubby echo, and Josh Winks' piece, reimagined through DJ Seinfeld's nostalgic lens, bridges eras with its acid-tinged warmth, a nod to Winks' pivotal 1990s contributions to electronic innovation. Vince Watson's infusion of afro soul elements brings organic texture, recalling his Detroit-inspired works from the early 2000s, as Ritz's nostalgic chords deepen the introspection, and Hideo Kobayashi crafts airy atmospheres that hint at Japanese minimalism.
Cinthie's playful funk lifts the energy, her Berlin-rooted revivalism shining through, before La Fluer closes the hour with shadowy tension, her Swedish melodic style from the late 2010s adding a cinematic edge that transitions smoothly into the second hour's velvety embrace.
Velvety Elements 015 unfolds with Vick Lavender's jazzy cosmic drift, his Chicago soul from Sophisticados' recent outputs grounding the ethereal vibe, as Rimbaudians' garage bounce injects playful rhythm. Panevino and Mr. Vs' soulful dedication, with Vs veteran 1990s house touch, warms the core, while Platzdasch's minimal sparsity invites reflection.
Deetron's uplifting keys propel forward, his Swiss precision evident in Mutual Rytms 2024 explorations, and Silicone Souls classic rephrased by Matthias Tanzmann's tech edge harks back to Glasgow's 2000s scene with fresh propulsion. Dan Shake's dubby depths evoke UK garage roots from the 2010s, Grisha gains progressive lift through Future Kings Of Houses South African remix, and Alland Byallos' broken beats, reshaped by James Rudies' bruk swing, add jazzy flair from Berlin's underground.
Danny Howell's atmospheric closeout, a staple of his progressive sets since the 1990s, fades into Col Lawton's soulful groove, sealing a nocturnal journey of introspection and release. This two-hour fusion of Floating Beats 442 and Velvety Elements 015 by DJ Joshua masterfully weaves deep house's emotive core with melodic tension and soulful release, spotlighting timeless in
