Jonni Hey from Tribal Fusion has submitted his playlist for Tribal Fusion 06 on Scientific Sound Asia. The platform operates as an underground electronic music radio station for India, China, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, the Philippines and the rest of Asia, alongside its work as a DJ agency, promoter and music news outlet.
Jonni hails from Wakefield in the north of England and has been DJing and promoting dance events since the early 1990s rave scene. His highlights include appearances alongside Seb Fontaine and Richie Fingers at The Rocket in London, as well as sets at Megatripolis, Notting Hill Carnival and Pendragon.
He later moved to Venezuela for three years, where he organised full moon beach parties and played live on La Karibeña radio. His activity there also included a festival performance for 6,000 attendees and a mix broadcast on La Mega, one of Venezuela’s major radio stations.
Jonni then relocated to Mallorca in Spain, where he played pre-club bars and private villa events. After time in South America and Spain, he moved to Koh Phangan, Thailand, where he has been based since around 2006.
In Koh Phangan, Jonni creates monthly conscious dance events and spent a year as resident VJ at Half Moon Festival. He is also connected with Rise Ecstatic Dance at Pyramid Yoga, Evolve events, Pulse Pool Parties and Yogasmic Boat parties.
His House music style covers Funky House, Groovy House, Uplifting House, Afro House, Tribal House, Old Skool House and Progressive House. For Tribal Fusion 06, he shifts direction with a Liquid Drum and Bass set, adding another sound to his monthly series.
Further mixes can be found through Jonni’s Mixcloud, while video content from Tribal Fusion is available on YouTube. This edition presents his long-running event background through a different tempo and sound palette.
Jonni Hey presents Tribal Fusion 06 with a selection led by Liquid Drum and Bass and supported by Jungle, Jump Up and reggae-influenced Drum and Bass. High Contrast opens with Time Is Hardcore, bringing Kae Tempest and Anita Blay into a bright and vocal-led Drum and Bass introduction.
Hybrid Minds and Linguistics follow with Run in the Hybrid Minds remix, moving the set towards smoother liquid material. Ed Solo, Deekline and Gala Orsborn then shift into Jungle with Top Rankin, linking the episode to reggae-influenced breakbeat pressure.
Soul Connection’s Keep Believing returns the programme to Liquid Drum and Bass before Marcia Aiken’s I'm Still In Love appears in the Kleu remix. Bassman, Serum and DJ Sly then change the tone with Quarterpounder Bass in the Serum remix, adding a short Jump Up Drum and Bass turn.
Beat Merchants’ Mandelah, Netsky and Hybrid Minds’ Let Me Hold You, and Seba’s Camouflage bring the set back into liquid territory. Hybrid Minds and Charlotte Haining then provide Brighter Days, with the original version keeping the vocal-led liquid sound intact before the Alibi remix adds a firmer Drum and Bass version.
Macca and Vector’s All The Time keeps the flow melodic, followed by Disrupta and Duskee’s Deep Thoughts with a deeper vocal-centred sound. Hybrid Minds and Alexa Harley then appear with Phoenix and Solitude, giving the middle section two of the episode’s clearest Liquid Drum and Bass entries.
DRS and Hybrid Minds continue that thread with Don’t Ever, placing DRS’ vocal style inside a warm and emotional Drum and Bass framework. AC13 and King DeepField’s Atlas then moves into broader Drum and Bass before Derrick and Tonika’s Gate Is Open returns the programme to a lighter liquid shape.
Whiney and Ben Verse bring Deep End into the set, adding a more direct Drum and Bass cut with a strong vocal presence. Dynamite MC and DRS then link with Keeno and Obsel on Still Beautiful, returning the selection to Liquid Drum and Bass through Keeno’s melodic and orchestral production style.
Thomas Oliver and Hybrid Minds’ Jetstream continues the vocal liquid focus, keeping the late section smooth and atmospheric. Sigma and Shakka then appear in the Hybrid Minds remix of Lost Away, extending the same melodic Drum and Bass sound into a more accessible vocal setting.
Chase and Status with Kabaka Pyramid introduce a reggae-centred Drum and Bass cut through Murder Music. Ed Solo and Deekline then return with Bam Bam in the Serial Killaz remix, placing the closing section back inside Jungle and soundsystem-led breakbeat energy.
Moby’s Porcelain appears in the Pola and Bryson remix, bringing a recognised electronic source into a polished Liquid Drum and Bass form. Tom Middleton, The Beloved and Mark Pritchard then follow with The Sun Rising in Tom’s Drum & Bass Mix, adding a classic electronic track rebuilt around Drum and Bass rhythm.
jPattersson closes the episode with A Footstep On Mars, ending the set on a Dub / Electronica selection after the stronger Drum and Bass and Jungle run. Tribal Fusion 06 is mostly centred on Liquid Drum and Bass, with Jonni Hey adding Jungle, Jump Up, reggae influence and deeper electronic material to widen the final shape.
