Ezmun has announced the track list for Cooking With Gas episode 18. Scientific Sound Asia is the English-language underground electronic music station, promoter and DJ agency serving expatriate and local audiences across Vietnam, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and the wider Asian region.
Cooking With Gas is Ezmun’s weekly outlet for percussive, groove-led and darker electronic sounds. Episode 18 delivers a focused blend of grime, dubstep, garage, leftfield bass and half-time techno, all centred around the 140 BPM spectrum. The show captures the raw energy and tension of UK-influenced underground bass music while maintaining a strong sense of flow and purpose.
Originally from Cumbria in the United Kingdom, Ezmun relocated to Vietnam to develop his ambitions as both a DJ and producer. Like many selectors, his journey began in the bedroom before evolving into house parties with close friends and collaborators. By 2019, that groundwork led to club performances across Manchester, Hanoi, Laos and Ho Chi Minh City, marking his breakthrough onto dancefloors.
The global pandemic forced a temporary relocation to Melbourne, where Ezmun continued to broadcast Cooking With Gas weekly, using the show as a platform to push his favourite sounds and maintain strong ties with the Asian underground scene. His style is shaped by minimal half-time rhythms, heavy bass pressure and jagged percussive elements, which he balances carefully to create peaks, tension and release within an energetic club framework.
While based in Australia, Ezmun remains deeply connected to the underground community he has built in Asia. Alongside refining his DJ identity, he continues to develop his production skills with the aim of releasing original material in the near future. Cooking With Gas serves not only as a personal creative outlet, but also as a space to showcase emerging artists, close peers and the darker edges of contemporary bass music.
DJ Ezmun opens the session deep in UK bass territory, setting a rugged tone with tracks like Blow On My Whistle and Pearson Sound’s untitled rollers. Early selections lock into broken rhythms and percussive swing, drawing from grime-rooted bass pressure and classic UK breaks energy.
As the mix progresses, the focus shifts into darker dubstep and halftime forms. Cuts such as Descendant, Decay and SBWYS bring low-slung subs and restrained drum programming, while artists like Walton, Commodo and J:Kenzo reinforce the deep dubstep lineage with weight, space and sound system intent.
Midway through, grime and UK funky influences surface with defining tracks like I Luv U, Take Time and The Boogaloo. These moments inject raw vocal energy and syncopated bounce, bridging dancefloor urgency with underground bass culture and reinforcing the 140 BPM continuum.
The closing stretch leans into techno-inflected pressure, where tracks like Beneath The Surface, Destroy The Mundane and Buzzsaw strip things back to industrial intensity. It’s a decisive ending that underlines the show’s core identity, uncompromising, percussive and rooted firmly in dark UK bass aesthetics.
