Interview Guest: The Musalini.
The Musalini is a rising force in underground hip-hop, known for his silky smooth delivery, luxury-laced lyricism, and dedication to the golden-era aesthetics of boom bap. Born and raised in The Bronx, New York, The Musalini channels the soul of East Coast hip-hop through a modern lens, creating music that’s rich with storytelling, confidence, and style.
He’s part of a new generation of artists revitalising the genre’s core values, sharp lyricism, soulful production, and authenticity, while adding his brand of charismatic flair. Since emerging in the late 2010s, The Musalini has built a prolific catalogue of solo releases and collaborative projects.
Albums like Musalini Season, Return of the Oro, Pharaoh Don, No Squares Allowed, and Still Living Proof reveal an artist deeply committed to crafting cohesive, cinematic experiences. His beats often draw on soul, jazz, and funk influences, giving his rhymes a luxurious backdrop over which he reflects on street survival, self-made success, ambition, and growth. These are themes that resonate with listeners who appreciate substance and narrative alongside style.
A major part of The Musalini’s appeal lies in his choice of collaborators. He’s worked closely with a number of respected underground producers, including 9th Wonder, DJ Fresh, Cookin Soul, Buckwild, and V-Don, all of whom help frame his voice in sonically rich, nostalgic sounds.
He has also joined forces with fellow MCs such as Planet Asia, Izzy Hott, Rasheed Chappell, and G4 Jag, blending seamlessly into a circle of modern-day lyricists who value bars and beats above trends. The Musalini is also recognised for his impressive consistency and independent hustle.
He regularly releases new music, often through his own Oro La Familia imprint, staying active in the scene and steadily building a global fan base. His smooth, confident vocal tone and laid-back flow give his music a cinematic quality, equal parts streetwise and aspirational. There’s an unmistakable touch of luxury rap in his aesthetic, but it’s always grounded in the grit and discipline of East Coast hip-hop tradition.
For those who appreciate boom bap beats, vivid storytelling, and fly rhymes, The Musalini offers a refreshing and consistently sharp voice. He’s not just preserving the legacy of New York hip-hop; he’s helping push it forward with every release. Whether you’re hearing him for the first time or following his steady rise through the underground, The Musalini stands as one of the most compelling independent hip-hop artists of the moment.
DJ King Flow opens Mixtape Addict 52 with a triple drop from The Musalini & DJ Fresh, “Moneyyy”, “Late Nite”, and “Can’t Buy Love”, blending Boom Bap drums with buttery underground lyricism. The collaborative energy stays high as DJ King Flow links with Lex Lakaiser on “Money”, followed by Uncle Lush’s introspective “Same Old Same”. Snoop Dogg’s “Sophisticated Crippin” changes pace with G-Funk smoothness, before Lloyd Banks & TL TopOfDaLyne bring East Coast grit on “Dedication”.
Sean Price & Agallah toughen things up on “Rising To The Top”, while oBleak’s “Think Critical” (cuts by Tone Spliff) and DV Alias Khryst’s “Supervillain” keep the underground hardcore vibe alive. Casablanca The Gawd & Che Noir trade bars on the conscious-laced “Readings On The Wall”. East Coast mastery continues with “Commandments” by Ransom, Conway & V-Don and “New York Ryder Music” from Agallah & DJ Premier, leading into Astray’s raw “Art Of War” and the lyrical depth of Willie The Kid & V Don’s “All For The Talking”.
Grea8gawd and Fam Ross keep the underground flowing with “Beautiful Snow” and “Diligence”, before 50 Cent’s “Straight To The Bank” injects some early 2000s mainstream swagger. The Southern and Gangsta Rap mood is solidified with Young Buck & 50 Cent’s “I’m A Soldier”, and the show hits a peak with Ghostface Killah, Harl3y & Fat Joe on the dramatic “Cape Fear”, then Ghostface returns solo on “One”.
Closing the hour, GZA, ODB, Inspectah Deck & Masta Killa deliver a timeless Wu-Tang classic with “Duel Of The Iron Mic”, wrapping the Boom Bap-heavy first act with East Coast royalty. The episode then transitions to a special interview with The Musalini, giving listeners an inside view into the underground scene, his collaborations, and musical philosophy.
The live broadcast is set for Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, from 8 PM to 10 PM Indochina Time (ICT), with a replay scheduled for Saturday from 8 AM to 10 AM (ICT).
