DJ Joshua is back with episode 743 of Floating Beats on Scientific Sound Asia. This platform functions as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, and promoter, while also publishing music news and linking audiences both regionally and globally.
Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been closely tied to the electronic music scene since the mid-1990s. His enduring affinity for vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats demonstrates a long-term commitment to the underground sound and DJ culture, forming a style rooted in tradition and ongoing musical development.
Throughout his career, Joshua has delved into house, techno, drum and bass, and chillout. Even during less active times for Portugal's rave scene, he stayed engaged at the grassroots level by organising events and supporting local underground communities. This helped him maintain connections within the scene and reinforced his long-term commitment to electronic music culture.
After taking a break from music to concentrate on his family, he made a comeback with a fresh focus through his techno radio show, Floating Beats. This series revitalised his international presence and evolved into a platform dedicated to deeper and more progressive electronic sounds, enabling him to hone a narrative-driven and meticulously structured style of DJing.
His studio work is released under various aliases, such as K Joshua, Joshua Fernand, Joshua Marian, and Joshua Onairam, each showcasing a unique creative path. Through these projects, he explores deep house, hypnotic techno, melodic club music, and cinematic electronic compositions, always prioritising atmosphere, flow, and musical storytelling.
Recent releases under the Joshua Fernand alias continue to emphasise a stronger focus on techno-oriented productions. Tracks like Blue River on MixCult Digital, along with Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal on JFLM Recordings, delve into Peak Time / Driving techno with forceful percussion, rolling momentum, and controlled progression. In contrast, Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records explore deeper hypnotic realms shaped by repetition, tension, and atmospheric layering.
In addition to these more intense productions, Killer’s Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings showcases a more melodic approach with its subtle arrangements and well-balanced Melodic House & Techno influences. This variation across releases highlights Joshua’s skill in transitioning between lively club tracks and more reflective electronic pieces while maintaining a cohesive sound identity.
In 2024, Joshua established JFLM Recordings as a platform for his productions, as well as to support underground artists and collaborative projects. The label remains an evolving independent outlet, dedicated to creative freedom, underground principles, and the long-term artistic growth within electronic music culture.
Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings collectively demonstrate a lasting dedication to new underground electronic music and the advancement of independent artistry. Episode 743 furthers this trajectory with a meticulously crafted experience centred on techno, melodic dynamics, and immersive club-oriented narratives, solidifying DJ Joshua’s growing reputation as both a selector and producer in the modern underground landscape.
Assuc opens the session with TV Program, immediately setting a deep warehouse Techno atmosphere, before Dog On Acid’s The Ways I Destroy Myself in the Snaga remix intensifies the hypnotic direction. Altinbas and DJ Dextro continue the relentless groove through Stygious Night and Thx, both driven by stripped-back percussion and rolling low-end pressure.
Benjamin Mull, alongside The Advent, deepen the underground atmosphere with Source 004 in the Cari Lekebusch remix, while DisX3 and Klint maintain the hypnotic flow through Collision and Shadow Ritual. Perroxx’s Grijs Gebied pushes the session further into darker warehouse territory with tightly layered rhythmic structures.
S-File’s Memory and Perroxx’s Dream continue the Raw and Deep Techno direction with minimal melodic elements and sustained rhythmic intensity. Greg Gow briefly shifts the atmosphere through Real Luv (90s Vibe Mix), introducing warmer House grooves before the mix returns firmly to hypnotic Techno territory.
Oscar Mulero’s Shiny Gold And Green Spots reinforces the darker underground energy with dense hypnotic textures and driving percussion. Uncertain’s Express and CV1’s Warehouse Tool continue the stripped-back warehouse-focused direction, maintaining the late-night industrial atmosphere running throughout the set.
DJ Grant closes the episode with Pose, ending the session with a smoother House groove after an intense journey through Raw, Deep and Hypnotic Techno. Across the full mix, Floating Beats 744 remains firmly rooted in deep underground warehouse sounds with very little compromise toward lighter club styles.
Tune in to his live radio show on Monday, May 25th, 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't listen to the live broadcast, the replay is available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
