Scientific Sound Asia presents the newest instalment of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Part of the station’s mission to connect underground artists across Asia and internationally, the series focuses on House music in its most soulful and refined forms.
Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the 1990s. His vast archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital releases reflects decades of dedication to the culture. While his path has taken in Techno, Drum & Bass, and Chillout, House has always formed the foundation of his creative output.
During quieter times for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua worked behind the decks and behind the scenes, organising events and encouraging collaboration. After a pause to dedicate time to family, he returned with renewed energy, launching Floating Beats, a show known for its melodic, immersive approach, followed by Velvety Elements, which highlights groove-driven and soulful strands of House.
Working under aliases such as K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explores everything from stripped-back minimal and percussive grooves to rich, melodic House journeys. In 2024, he established JFLM Recordings, a label that releases his own music alongside carefully chosen works from rising talents, with an emphasis on deep, emotionally resonant sounds.
Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to define his own approach to House while building a community of listeners worldwide. The show celebrates the richness and variety of the genre, offering an authentic and soulful experience every week.
Velvety Elements 278 begins with Half Dead Dave’s Celestial Bean and Nzagi & Leandro Silva’s Floyd Dub, two deep house tracks that establish a mellow, immersive groove. Their subtle pads and dub-tinged basslines highlight the atmospheric side of deep house music, setting the tone for the mix.
The mood lifts with Zoo Brazil’s It’s You and Black Eyes’ Master of Hydro, leaning towards house with funk-infused bass and crisp percussion. Alex V’s I Feel It and Damian Rausch’s How We Do It return to the deep house vibe, blending soulful melodies with hypnotic grooves that showcase the diversity of the genre.
Midway, DJ Pipe’s Mystery Shopper adds quirky house energy, before PTTY’s Ontan (Dan Goul Remix) shifts into minimal deep tech territory. The intricate bassline and stripped-back percussion transition seamlessly into Damian Rausch & Ernest Kalinin’s Never Meant to Be, balancing deep emotion with rhythmic drive.
The set closes with DJ Deep’s The Third Man and Joshua Marian’s Just Love, the latter highlighting Joshua’s personal touch on deep house. Finally, DJ Sneak’s Dirty Jazz brings in a funk and jazz-inspired groove, ending Velvety Elements 278 with a nod to house music’s classic roots while blending contemporary deep house and minimal deep tech.
Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, you can listen to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
