DJ Joshua has released the tracklists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements shows. Scientific Sound Asia, the Asian electronic music station and DJ agency with a growing international audience, continues to showcase his work to listeners around the world.
DJ Joshua, also known by his alias Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ and producer from Évora with a lifelong dedication to electronic music. A passionate collector, he has built an extensive archive across vinyl, cassette, CD and digital formats. From a young age he immersed himself in House, Drum and Bass, Chillout and Techno, spending countless hours crate-digging in record shops and even more time practising at home with his expanding collection.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, electronic music was still scarce on Portuguese radio, but Joshua pushed local stations to embrace the sound. His persistence eventually earned him several residencies and marked the beginning of his journey as a radio DJ, allowing him to introduce electronic music to younger audiences across the country.
As the underground movement evolved, Joshua also saw the need to contribute directly to the scene. He began organising local events and playing in clubs and bars, creating spaces where he and his peers could share their passion for electronic music. When his first child was born, he paused his musical career to embrace fatherhood, returning years later with renewed artistic purpose.
This return gave life to Floating Beats, a show that quickly built a strong online following with its immersive and melodic approach to electronic music. Its success led to a second programme, Velvety Elements, created to explore Joshua’s deeper and more soulful interpretation of house. Today, both shows are broadcast internationally on a wide range of online platforms and partner stations.
The past few years have marked a significant creative progression for Joshua. Working under multiple aliases, K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he has broadened his artistic identity across several styles. Key recent releases include Nobody Waiting For Me and I Love You as Joshua Marian, Chance With Soul and Just Love under his Joshua Fernand alias, and the more introspective Light of Faith as K Joshua.
His melodic project Joshua Onairam continues to evolve, notably through tracks such as Melodic Doubts and the 2025 single Shiny Night. In 2024, he also launched JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to releasing his own productions while supporting underground artists who share his focus on authenticity, musicality and emotional depth.
Joshua describes his philosophy simply:“Music is an art form. It is a fusion of elements that can convey emotions and move the body. This is a place where you hear sounds that float and fall onto your body — enjoy it.”
In his weekly broadcasts, Joshua navigates a broad spectrum of House and Techno sub-genres, frequently incorporating Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. His shows remain a reflection of both his deep musical history and his continuing evolution as a producer and selector.
The first hour of Floating Beats 516 opens with warm and textured grooves from Hockey Player’s Confession (Defaultman & Sapurra Remix), moving through the immersive feel of Natural High and the hypnotic flow of Beautiful Thang (Bushwacka Remix). The mood deepens as Blue Flag and God Became Man add atmospheric space, setting a smooth path for the early part of the session.
Energy unfolds gradually as Pluviophile and Rapture weave subtle percussion with melodic movement. Colour Drops brings a bright uplift before Rave Wave (Tony Lionni Remix) introduces a sharper edge. The first half closes strongly with Hydrophonic and the rhythmic character of Roger Roger, completing a steady and tightly shaped hour from DJ Joshua.
Velvety Elements 088 begins the second hour with soulful touches through I Can’t Believe It and the warm pulse of Faith (Thomas Stieler’s ID Remix). Tracks like Groove’em and Ruffcut add crisp house textures while maintaining a deep and classic feel. The flow stays smooth as What You Give and Deep Vibe bring the melodic depth typical of the Velvety Elements sound.
The closing phase moves into uplifting Deep House with On Sunset and Uplift My World, followed by the jazzy character of Twin Towns Orchestra. The final stretch softens into the mellow vibe of Mellowday before ending with the rhythmic punch of Second Nature, Juicy, and STD. Together, both hours create a cohesive journey across Deep House, Progressive House and melodic atmospheres.
