Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 699, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a leading force in the underground scene, Scientific Sound Asia continues to operate as a radio station, DJ agency, and event organiser, promoting electronic music culture throughout Asia and beyond.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His collection spans vinyl, cassette tapes, CDs, and digital formats, showcasing his lifelong dedication to music across various media.

Over the years, Joshua has explored a wide spectrum of genres, including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even during the decline of Portugal’s rave era in the late ’90s, he stayed closely connected to the underground scene by organising grassroots events and working with fellow artists to keep the movement alive.

After stepping back from performance and broadcasting to prioritise family life, Joshua eventually returned to music with a fresh focus. As his daughter grew older, he launched Floating Beats—a radio show and podcast that marked the beginning of his renewed artistic journey.

In 2023, he began releasing original productions under a series of aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each moniker reflects a different side of his creative expression, from melodic and emotive tracks to minimal and experimental compositions.

In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings, a label dedicated to supporting his expanding discography and artistic direction. JFLM serves both as an outlet for his work and as a platform for innovative sounds, reinforcing Joshua’s commitment to pushing boundaries and maintaining his influence within the global electronic music scene.

Floating Beats 699 begins with TBONTB by DCLVIII OFC, an entry into Melodic Techno with a moody, refined build. Danny Howells follows with Stereodrama, offering Deep House textures that combine warmth with tight rhythmic precision. Acitone’s Paradise Lost introduces hypnotic elements with a Raw and Deep Techno approach, while Fundamental Harmonics delivers a heady dose of Minimal Deep Tech on Plasmodesma.

Midway, the mix intensifies as Ian O’Donovan’s Samhain brings peak-time energy, followed by the deep and pounding rhythms of Morph by Marco Bailey. Vince Watson’s Spirals turns toward an emotional Melodic House & Techno sounds, providing a textured transition. Tech House makes its mark with Procession from Matthias Tanzmann & Black Circle, adding bounce and groove to the centre of the mix.

Later in the show, Salbany’s Crossroads presents a gritty techno dub courtesy of Cisco Ferreira’s remix. Moy Santana’s Ariake and Gentian’s Nothing Else Of Value return to Raw, Deep, Hypnotic Techno, showcasing layered tension and minimalistic drive. These tracks maintain a continuous flow of deep, locked-in energy.

To close, Begone by Aubrey Fry (Nick Stoynoff Remix) introduces a Progressive House angle, with a smoother yet still compelling conclusion. Floating Beats 699 is another immersive episode curated by DJ Joshua, threading across hypnotic techno, deep melodic cuts, and underground club material.
