Floating Beats 748 on Scientific Sound Asia welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running show. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.

Born in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been part of electronic music culture since the mid-1990s, building his knowledge across vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats. His background spans House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout, and even during quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, he stayed active through event organisation and community support.

After a period away from DJing to focus on family, he returned through Floating Beats, which has developed into a recognised outlet for deeper and more progressive electronic music. The show is built around atmosphere, controlled progression and a sense of arc that draws on his years of experience behind the decks.

Alongside the show, Joshua produces under several aliases, each covering different ground within electronic music. As Joshua Fernand, whose releases can be found on Beatport, he works in modern Techno, with tracks including Blue River on MixCult Digital and Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal on his own JFLM Recordings.

Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records take a darker, more hypnotic direction through tension and repetition. Killer’s Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings under the Joshua Fernand name bridges the gap, combining layered melodies with Melodic House and Techno structures.

His Joshua Marian alias sits at the deeper end, with releases including Just Love, Express Your Voice and Go Slow appearing on labels such as Yesenia, Jazz In Da House, Agua Salada Records and Wanda. That project draws on warm melodies, soulful textures and groove-led rhythmic flow rather than the harder edges of his Techno work.

The K Joshua alias moves into rawer and more experimental territory, with Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records spanning raw and hypnotic Techno, Dub Techno and Ambient influences. These projects show the range of his studio work while keeping a clear connection to underground electronic music.

JFLM Recordings, launched in 2024, serves as an independent platform for his own output and collaborative projects. His Floating Beats mixes are available through Mixcloud, where the series presents his ongoing work as a DJ and selector.

Floating Beats 748 by DJ Joshua opens with Gari Romalis’ Unorthodox, placing the first track inside Minimal / Deep Tech through its reduced groove and underground House-leaning structure. DJ Godfather follows with Love, Detroit in the Jit Mix, bringing a brief Bass Music and club-focused Detroit turn before the episode settles into Techno.

John Beltran’s Rotterdam moves the programme into Techno, setting a deeper and more atmospheric direction. Tom Rotzki’s Millenium Stab then keeps the rhythm stripped and focused, building the first clear section of Raw, Deep, Hypnotic Techno.

Joshua Fernand’s Celestial adds one of the host’s own productions to the sequence, keeping the sound measured and hypnotic through Tenochtitlan Recordings. Emmanuel’s New Media follows in the OFF/GRID remix, giving the set a firmer percussive edge while staying inside the same deep Techno framework.

Joshua Fernand returns with the promo cut Switch On, maintaining the controlled and machine-led structure of the middle section. Perroxx then brings Grijs Gebied into the mix, keeping the pace steady with a darker and more functional rhythm.

Procombo’s Static Force adds another raw Techno selection through ANAOH, extending the central run with a clean and focused drive. Raho’s Allochromatism follows on contempo, keeping the programme close to hypnotic repetition and textural movement.

Rene Wise’s Flow brings the Dekmantel sound into the late section, adding a more detailed and rolling form of deep Techno. Merv’s Wind then introduces Peak-Time Techno, raising the pressure through a more direct and forceful rhythm.

Tony Miler’s Treasure Hunt continues the peak-time movement on Diffuse Reality Records, keeping the closing section sharper and more forceful. Jorg Rodriguez closes the episode with NRG Meets HRG, returning the final track to raw, deep and hypnotic Techno through Illegal Alien LTD.

Floating Beats 748 moves from Minimal / Deep Tech and Detroit club influence into a sustained raw and hypnotic Techno session. DJ Joshua keeps the episode tightly focused, using John Beltran, Joshua Fernand, Emmanuel, Rene Wise and Jorg Rodriguez to build a deep and rhythmically controlled closing arc.
