Floating Beats returns with episode 734, presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, an underground radio station, DJ agency and promoter based in Asia with an international audience, the series continues to support underground electronic music, DJ culture and live events while connecting globally influenced sounds with listeners across the region and beyond.
Born in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the mid 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to underground sound and club culture. From early record collecting to countless hours behind the decks, his musical outlook has consistently been shaped by curiosity, depth and a broad appreciation of electronic music.
Throughout his career, he has explored house, techno, drum and bass and chillout, remaining active even during quieter periods for Portugal’s rave movement. Working closely with fellow DJs and producers at the grassroots level, he helped sustain the underground scene and maintain creative momentum when wider attention around electronic music was limited.
After stepping away from music for a period to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed direction through Floating Beats, a radio and podcast series that quickly reestablished his international presence. Over time, the show has developed into a recognised platform for deeper, progressive and hypnotic electronic sounds, reflecting his growth as a selector while building a dedicated international audience.
His studio work now spans several aliases, each representing a different creative perspective. As K Joshua, he has explored emotive deep house with releases such as the Hopeful Mind EP. Under the Joshua Fernand name, he moved toward raw and hypnotic techno through the Logic Move EP. The Joshua Marian alias introduced groove-led soulful house with tracks such as Chance With Soul, while Joshua Onairam focuses on melodic and cinematic expression.
Recent work continues this progression. The 2025 Joshua Onairam release Shiny Night combines progressive structure with melodic atmosphere, highlighting a stronger focus on narrative flow and emotional detail while maintaining the depth associated with his earlier productions.
In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own music while also supporting underground artists committed to authenticity and musical depth. Together, Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings reflect a long-term dedication to underground electronic culture, with each episode continuing a carefully shaped musical journey through contemporary electronic music.
Floating Beats 734 begins with a stripped rhythmic introduction as Sapphire Tomb opens with a minimal house groove before DVS1’s Inertia and Onward deepen the atmosphere through hypnotic techno textures. Groovelapolk and Get Up reinforce the rolling low-end pressure, while Nine (909 Drum Tool) and Dysfunction continue the raw, percussive direction that defines the early section of the set.
The middle of the mix keeps the hypnotic tension building through Every Friday (The Beat), maintaining the steady underground pulse before DJ 3000’s Raving Or Behaving briefly introduces a classic house groove. Kobayashi then shifts the tone into dub techno territory, bringing deeper atmospheres and spacious production.
Energy begins to rise with Arges, which introduces a more driving peak time techno structure. The KiNK remix of Everybody continues the momentum with a powerful rhythmic lift that prepares the final stretch of the mix.
The closing section returns to darker hypnotic territory with Yuna before the set finishes with his track Breaking Rocks, delivering a strong peak time techno finale. Episode 734 stays rooted in raw techno aesthetics while allowing moments of dub and house influence to add contrast to the driving underground flow.
Tune in to his live radio show on Monday, March 16th, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't make it, you can listen to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
