DJ Joshua returns with episode 740 of Floating Beats on Scientific Sound Asia. The platform operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, while also publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Born in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the mid-1990s. His long-standing connection to vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of dedication to underground sound and DJ culture, shaping a perspective grounded in both tradition and evolution.
Throughout his career, he has explored house, techno, drum and bass and chillout. Even during quieter periods for Portugal’s rave scene, he remained active at a grassroots level, organising events and supporting the underground community. This continued involvement helped sustain local networks while reinforcing his role within the scene.
After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed direction through Floating Beats. The series reestablished his international presence and developed into a platform for deeper and progressive electronic sounds, allowing him to refine a more narrative-driven and structured approach to DJing.
His studio work spans multiple aliases, including K Joshua, Joshua Fernand, Joshua Marian and Joshua Onairam, each representing a different creative direction. Across these identities, he explores styles ranging from deep house and techno to more melodic and cinematic compositions, maintaining a consistent emphasis on flow and musical storytelling.
Recent releases continue this progression, including the 2025 Joshua Onairam track Shiny Night. The production highlights his focus on narrative development, combining progressive structure with melodic detail and a controlled atmospheric build.
In 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings as a platform for his own releases while supporting underground artists. The label reflects a continued commitment to musical integrity and provides an outlet for both solo work and collaborative projects.
Together, his online radio show Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings represent a long-term dedication to underground electronic culture. Each episode continues a carefully shaped and evolving musical journey, grounded in experience, consistency and a clearly defined artistic direction that connects listeners across scenes and regions.
The set opens with Sublee’s Metime, introducing a Minimal and Deep Tech foundation before Angelo Bass shifts into a warmer groove with Strictly For Love. His moniker Joshua Onairam follows with Similar Opening, adding a melodic house and techno layer and a personal touch to the early section.
Momentum builds through DCLVIII OFC and DBFB, where Cougar and Rummage move the set into a deeper and more hypnotic direction. Deetron introduces a Progressive House element with Flow, creating a smooth transition between styles.
The middle section continues with Heck’s 2AM, maintaining a stripped-back groove, while Beroshima’s Horizon adds a Tech House edge. Fundamental Harmonics reinforces the Progressive direction with Filaments, keeping the flow consistent.
The closing stretch moves fully into Techno territory as Rolando’s Gaining Ground introduces a deeper and more driving atmosphere. KMYLE follows with Drill, maintaining the intensity and rounding off the set.
Across the session, DJ Joshua blends Minimal, Progressive and Deep Techno elements into a cohesive journey, gradually shifting from groove-led selections into a more hypnotic and driving underground sound.
