Floating Beats returns with episode 728, presented by DJ Joshua. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, the series continues to support underground electronic music, DJ culture and live events across Asia, connecting globally rooted sounds with an international audience through carefully curated radio programming.

Born in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the mid-1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of commitment to underground sound. From early crate digging to extensive time behind the decks, his musical outlook has consistently been shaped by curiosity, depth and a broad appreciation of electronic music.

Across his career, Joshua has explored a wide spectrum of styles including House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout. During quieter periods for Portugal’s rave movement, he remained active at a grassroots level, working closely with fellow DJs and producers to help sustain the underground scene and maintain creative momentum when wider support was limited.

After stepping away from music to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed direction through Floating Beats, a radio and podcast series that quickly re-established his international presence. Since then, the show has evolved into a respected platform for melodic, progressive and deeper electronic sounds, reflecting his ongoing development as a selector while attracting a global listenership.

In recent years, Joshua has expanded his artistic output through multiple aliases, each representing a distinct sonic focus. As K-Joshua, the Hopeful Mind EP explored emotive Deep House. Under the Joshua Fernand name, the Logic Move EP shifted toward hypnotic and raw Techno. His Joshua Marian project delivered groove-led, soulful House with Chance With Soul, while Joshua Onairam centres on cinematic and melodic textures, as heard on Melodic Doubts.

His more recent productions signal a confident refinement of this direction. Shiny Night, released in 2025 under the Joshua Onairam alias, blends progressive melody with emotional flow, highlighting an increased focus on atmosphere, narrative and musical detail. These releases build naturally on the foundations of Hopeful Mind and Logic Move, reinforcing a coherent evolution across his Deep House and Techno work.

In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings, a label created to release his own music while collaborating with underground artists who share a commitment to authenticity and depth. Together, Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings reflect a long-term dedication to meaningful electronic music, offering listeners an ongoing and carefully shaped creative journey rooted firmly in underground culture.

The opening stretch of Floating Beats 728 establishes a stripped, mechanical tone, with driving yet restrained selections setting a focused atmosphere. Early cuts from Z.I.P.P.O and Cv1 sit firmly in raw techno territory, creating a tense framework before Klint and Eman deepen the hypnotic pull with looping, low-slung pressure.

As the mix progresses, the emphasis shifts further into raw and deep hypnotic techno. Tracks from Toru Ikemoto, 1C3Man and Emilio Albert lock into steady, repetitive momentum, while Iglo and Nøne push a darker, more introspective edge. The pacing remains controlled, allowing each track to breathe while maintaining forward motion.

Midway through, subtle changes in intensity introduce a harder contour. Hugo Rolan and Seth inject peak time drive without breaking the hypnotic flow, adding weight and urgency while preserving the underground character. These moments lift the energy without tipping into excess, reinforcing the mix’s disciplined structure.

The closing section returns to dense, rolling hypnotism, with contributions from Joshua Fernand, Rraytek and Slv tightening the loop-based tension. The episode closes with sustained pressure rather than release, leaving Floating Beats 728 as a cohesive statement of modern raw techno, focused, uncompromising and built for late-night listening.

Catch his live radio show on Monday, February 2nd, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). Missed it? No problem—tune in to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
