Velvety Elements returns with a new edition hosted by DJ Joshua on Scientific Sound Asia. The platform operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, while also publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of commitment to underground sound and DJ culture.
Although his musical journey has spanned techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music has remained central to his artistic identity. His sets focus on groove, soul and emotional depth, maintaining a consistent connection to classic and contemporary house influences.
During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground movement, he remained active by organising events and collaborating with fellow artists. These efforts helped sustain a resilient local scene while strengthening his role within the community.
After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed direction through Floating Beats. The series developed into a recognised platform for melodic and forward-thinking electronic music.
Velvety Elements followed as a complementary project focused on deeper and more soulful interpretations of house. The show explores warm textures and flowing structures, reflecting a more introspective side of his musical approach.
Working under aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore multiple creative directions. Each project highlights a different aspect of his sound, from minimal grooves to melodic and cinematic compositions.
In 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings as a platform for his own productions and to support underground artists. The label has since developed into an outlet for both solo work and collaborations.
Under the Joshua Marian alias, releases such as the Nobody Waiting For Me EP on Back to the Beat expanded his focus on groove-led house. Tracks like Just Love and Chance With Soul further explored this direction with refined melodic detail.
In 2025, his K Joshua single Light of Faith introduced a more introspective tone within his discography. The release combines deep house rhythms with melodic phrasing that balances reflection and forward motion.
Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to develop a clear and evolving musical identity. Each episode unfolds as a carefully structured journey, reflecting the enduring character and depth of house music.
The Velvety Elements 307 opening stretch settles into a refined Deep House direction, with Satore and Audio Soul Project setting a warm and groove-led tone. Alex Niggemann shifts the mood slightly into Minimal and Deep Tech territory, before Maya Jane Coles’ remix of 4 You introduces a classic House touch with a modern edge.
Energy builds through Gorge and Reset Robot, where the groove becomes more driving and club-focused, moving into Tech House and Peak Time Techno. Nikola Gala brings things back into a House framework, while Steffen Deux and Cozzy D with Eric Volta return to a deeper, more melodic Deep House flow.
The mid-section continues with a strong Tech House presence as DJ Kool Dek and Michel de Hey with M.I.R.K.O. push the mix into a more rhythmic and rolling direction. The Nic Fanciulli remix in particular adds a polished, late-night club feel with tight percussion and forward momentum.
This selection reflects a period where Deep House, Tech House and Techno were blending seamlessly, capturing a distinct underground club sound that remains influential today. DJ Joshua revisits that era with a mix that balances groove, depth and driving energy across the full session.
Listen to his live radio broadcast on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, you can catch the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
