The latest edition of Floating Beats, episode 718, is presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, a platform dedicated to underground electronic music, DJ culture and live events across Asia, the series continues to showcase innovative artists and global sounds.
Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been active in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital releases reflects decades of dedication to sound and a lasting relationship with underground culture.
Throughout his career, he has explored a wide range of styles including house, techno, drum and bass and chillout. During quieter periods for Portugal’s rave movement, he helped sustain the underground scene by organising grassroots events and collaborating with fellow DJs and producers. His efforts played an important role in supporting local creativity at a time when the community needed it most.
After stepping back briefly to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed focus through Floating Beats, a podcast and radio series that quickly reconnected him with the international DJ world. Floating Beats has since grown into a respected platform for melodic, progressive and atmospheric electronic music, with listeners tuning in from around the world.
In recent years, Joshua has expanded his artistic identity through several aliases, each expressing a different facet of his sound. As K-Joshua, his Hopeful Mind EP from 2024 explored deep and emotive house. Under the name Joshua Fernand, the Logic Move EP delivered hypnotic and raw techno. As Joshua Marian, Chance With Soul in 2025 showcased soulful and groove-oriented house. His Joshua Onairam project continues to explore cinematic and melodic textures through releases such as Melodic Doubts.
His most recent work highlights a confident evolution in his style. Shiny Night, released in 2025 under Joshua Onairam, captures a vibrant mix of progressive melody and emotional flow, reinforcing his growing interest in atmospheric storytelling. These new productions follow the 2024 EPs Logic Move and Hopeful Mind, marking a continued refinement of his deep house and techno foundations.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings, a label built to release his own music while partnering with underground artists who share his commitment to authenticity, depth and emotion. Together with Floating Beats, the label reflects his long-standing dedication to meaningful electronic music, offering listeners an evolving journey into his creative world.
The episode opens with a controlled surge as TV Program sets a firm foundation in raw and hypnotic techno. Everyday expands the atmosphere with deeper movement while Stygious Night introduces a darker shade through layered tension. Warehouse Tool follows with a stripped, functional shape that keeps the early pace tight and focused.
Energy rises through the OFF/GRID remix of New Media, giving the flow a sharper push before Drive System adds a rolling, rhythmic lift. Pressure and Compare continue this momentum with subtle variations in tone, guiding the mix through a steady mid-session climb. Conrad Van Orton’s City Roaming builds on this direction with a firm, shifting groove.
The latter section becomes heavier and more forceful as Paris to Lisbon and House on Fire push into deeper warehouse intensity. Project 2501 marks one of the episode’s peak-time moments, bringing a harder edge before Radici returns to a hypnotic drive. The journey finishes with Wind, closing the session on a strong and direct note.
Floating Beats 718 highlights DJ Joshua’s sharp focus on raw, hypnotic and peak-time techno, shaping a consistent and immersive experience built for deep concentration and late-evening momentum.
Be sure to catch his live radio show on Monday, November 24th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't tune in, a replay will be broadcast on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
