The latest edition of Floating Beats, episode 716, is presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia, a platform dedicated to underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events across Asia, the show continues to champion innovative artists and global sounds.

Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been an influential figure in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital releases reflects a lifelong dedication to sound and an enduring connection to underground culture.

Throughout his career, Joshua has explored a wide range of genres, including house, techno, drum and bass, and chillout. Even during quieter periods for Portugal’s rave movement, he remained active by organising events and collaborating with fellow DJs and producers, helping to sustain the local underground community.

After stepping back to focus on family, Joshua returned with renewed energy through Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show that reintroduced him to the international DJ circuit. The series has since become a respected showcase for melodic, progressive, and atmospheric electronic music, earning a loyal global audience.

In recent years, Joshua has diversified his creative output through multiple aliases, each reflecting a unique aspect of his musical identity. As K-Joshua, his Hopeful Mind EP (2024) explored deep and emotive house. Under Joshua Fernand, Logic Move EP delved into hypnotic techno, while as Joshua Marian, Chance With Soul (2025) merged groove and soul-driven rhythms. His Joshua Onairam project continues to experiment with melodic and cinematic expression through releases like Melodic Doubts.

Joshua’s newest productions further highlight his evolving artistry. His 2025 release Shiny Night as Joshua Onairam stands as a vibrant example of his melodic and cinematic sound design, combining deep progressive structure with emotional drive. The track follows his 2024 EPs Logic Move and Hopeful Mind, marking a continued journey through refined house and techno influences.

To support his artistic evolution, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings in 2024, a label created to release his own productions and collaborate with innovative underground artists. Together with Floating Beats, the imprint embodies his commitment to authenticity, depth, and emotion, connecting audiences to the rich and evolving world of electronic music.

The set opens deep in the pocket as Saisei locks a hypnotic pulse and Quertas pares the room to essential elements. Lisboa follows with tunnelling momentum, then Quanta keeps the screws turning with a warehouse cadence. The focus is tight, functional, and immersive, carving space for the journey ahead.

Colour arrives with Shiny Night as arcing leads widen the palette without breaking the trance. Celestial leans into sunrise warmth, and Prodigal Sun lets a measured progressive line push the room forward. The mood lifts while the groove stays anchored, a controlled elevation that keeps attention on the floor.

The contour narrows again as Why You Mad (Kirill Matveev Rework) returns to minimal pressure, letting negative space breathe between bass and percussion. Dub 3720 (Zombies In Miami Latino Dream Remix) loosens the shoulders with Balearic-tinged swing, a brief exhale before the intensity ramps back up.

The close is a firm return to the core sound. Pangea Ultima, Daltonic, and Endless Path drive home the raw, deep, hypnotic aesthetic with sinewy synth work and disciplined repetition. DJ Joshua lands the session with precision, a late-night arc that balances monochrome focus with measured flashes of melody.

Don't miss his live radio show on Monday, November 10th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you're unable to listen then, a replay will air on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
