The latest edition of Floating Beats, episode 707, is presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Scientific Sound Asia, a leading platform for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events across Asia, continues to spotlight forward-thinking artists from around the globe.
Joshua, originally from Évora, Portugal, has been immersed in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His vast archive of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital media reflects a lifelong passion for sound and an enduring commitment to preserving underground culture.
Over the years, he has explored a wide spectrum of genres, from house and techno to drum and bass and chillout. Even as Portugal’s rave movement slowed in the late 1990s, Joshua stayed active in the scene, organising grassroots events and collaborating with fellow DJs and producers to keep the underground spirit alive.
After a break to focus on family life, he returned with fresh energy and launched Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show that marked his re-entry into broadcasting and DJing. Since then, Floating Beats has become a respected platform for immersive and melodic electronic music, with a dedicated international following.
In 2023, Joshua expanded into production under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each moniker represents a different facet of his creativity, from melodic journeys to minimal and experimental sounds.
Furthering his vision, 2024 saw the launch of JFLM Recordings, a label designed to showcase his own productions alongside innovative work from new underground artists. With both Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings, Joshua continues to strengthen the global underground scene, bringing depth, diversity, and creativity to audiences worldwide.
Floating Beats 707 opens with Glenn Morrison’s Orange Glow in Charlie May’s dub edit, a progressive house cut with deep atmospheric layers. Mathew Jonson’s Dayz follows, pushing the set into minimal-driven tech house grooves, before Forteba’s Röltex delivers lush deep house warmth. Homework’s Rally Racquet Club injects classic house energy with funky undertones.
Stelios Vassiloudis’ Bite Down in the Satoshi Fumi remix keeps the vibe deep and hypnotic, before Breccia & Ian O'Donovan’s The Island lifts the energy into progressive house territory, balancing cinematic synths with a rolling groove.
The mix intensifies as The Third Man’s Paucity introduces peak-time techno power, layered with metallic drive, followed by Kirk Degiorgio’s Ripple Effect, a Detroit-inspired techno journey. Both selections highlight the strength of 2011’s underground techno.
Closing with Sascha Sonido’s Smoke On The Water and Johannes Heil’s Twentythree, Joshua wraps the episode with hypnotic tech house textures. Floating Beats 707 captures the spirit of 2011’s electronic underground, blending deep house, progressive house, techno, and tech house in a timeless flashback session.
