The latest edition of Floating Beats, episode 706, is hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. Scientific Sound Asia, one of Asia’s leading platforms for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events, continues to highlight forward-thinking artists from around the world.

Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been deeply engaged with electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats reflects a lifelong passion for sound and a dedication to preserving underground culture in all its forms.

Throughout his career, he has explored a wide spectrum of styles, ranging from House and Techno to Drum and Bass and Chillout. Even as Portugal’s rave scene slowed in the late 1990s, Joshua remained committed to sustaining its energy, organising grassroots events and collaborating with fellow DJs and producers to uphold the underground ethos.

After stepping back to focus on family life, he returned with renewed creativity. With his daughter grown, he launched Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show that marked his re-entry into DJing and broadcasting. Since its launch, the project has become a respected platform for immersive and melodic electronic music.

In 2023, Joshua began releasing original productions under multiple aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each name reflects a different side of his artistry, from melodic explorations to more minimal and experimental approaches.

Further expanding his work, 2024 saw the launch of JFLM Recordings, a label created to house Joshua’s wide-ranging productions while offering a stage for innovative new artists in underground electronic music. With both Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings, Joshua continues to strengthen the vitality and diversity of the global underground scene.

The mix begins with Colomboi’s 2484, a driving Techno (Peak Time / Driving) track that sets a high-energy foundation. DJ Dextro’s Calibrado and Toru Ikemoto’s Don’t Play 162 steer things into darker, hypnotic realms, where pulsating rhythms and raw textures create a powerful groove. Joshua Fernand’s own Hard Dollar stands out with its Dub-influenced Techno edge, showcasing his evolving production style.

Momentum builds as Ken Ishii’s Rapid Shots Part 1 and Marco Bailey’s Wraith inject relentless Peak Time / Driving intensity. The Advent’s Circulate and Procombo’s Funk Sequence carry the hypnotic pulse forward, with Klint’s The Mess adding further grit and raw energy. Each track expands on the show’s central theme of uncompromising underground Techno.

The second half ramps up with JXTPS’s Scorpion and Hugo Rolan’s First Orbit, both fierce Peak Time / Driving tracks. Gunjack’s Nexus Creature and Damian Vargas’s Universo Cromodinamico deliver heavy, mechanical grooves, grounding the mix in industrial power. Cari Lekebusch’s Freeze Tag provides a fitting climax with its deep, hypnotic quality, closing the set on a strong underground note.

Episode 706 showcases DJ Joshua’s skill in curating a seamless journey across Raw, Deep, and Hypnotic Techno, as well as Peak Time Driving Techno. It’s an exploration of modern underground Techno at its purest, offering listeners an immersive ride through hypnotic loops, relentless rhythms, and driving peak-time energy.

Make sure to listen to his live radio show on Monday, September 1st, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you're unable to catch it, a replay will air on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
