The latest instalment of Floating Beats, episode 705, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As one of Asia’s leading platforms for underground electronic music, DJ culture, and live events, Scientific Sound Asia continues to showcase forward-thinking artists from across the globe.

Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection, which spans vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital formats, reflects a lifelong dedication to sound and the preservation of underground culture in all its forms.

Over the years, his journey has explored a wide range of styles, from House and Techno to Drum and Bass and Chillout. Even as Portugal’s rave movement slowed during the late 1990s, Joshua remained a driving force behind the scene, organising grassroots events and collaborating with DJs and producers to sustain the underground spirit.

After taking time away to focus on family life, he returned with renewed creative energy. With his daughter grown, Joshua launched Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show that signalled his re-entry into DJing and broadcasting. The project has since become a respected outlet for immersive and melodic electronic music.

In 2023, he began releasing original productions under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each moniker represents a distinct aspect of his artistry, ranging from melodic journeys to stripped-back experimental explorations.

Building on this momentum, 2024 saw the creation of JFLM Recordings, a label designed to house Joshua’s multifaceted productions while also providing a platform for innovative new voices in underground electronic music. With Floating Beats and JFLM Recordings, Joshua continues to contribute to the vitality and diversity of the global underground scene.

The latest Floating Beats opens with deep hypnotic selections, including Rising Sun by The Exaltics, Filterbank from D-Leria, and Stephen Brown’s The 5. These tracks immediately set a raw, immersive atmosphere that defines DJ Joshua’s style of techno.

Momentum builds with Louis The 4th’s Drive System, Greg Gow’s Get Up, and Namhar’s Circum Navigate, each adding weighty rhythms and subtle melodic tension. Tal Fussman’s Everybody (KiNK Remix) pushes into peak-time techno, injecting high-energy drive into the set.

The journey continues with Vessel by R.M.K. and Alden Tyrell & Serge’s remix of Rising Sun, weaving together hypnotic sequences and rolling basslines. These tracks blur the lines between underground grit and club-focused intensity.

Closing moments highlight techno’s darker edges, with Invexis & The Sixth Sense’s Night Hunters, Markantonio’s Radici, and Obscure Shape’s Sayuri. Together, they cement Floating Beats 705 as a showcase of both hypnotic depth and peak-time power, underlining DJ Joshua’s mastery of techno’s many shades.

Be sure to catch his live radio show on Monday, August 25th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't tune in, a replay will be broadcast on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
