Scientific Sound Asia presents the latest instalment of Floating Beats, episode 703, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As one of Asia’s leading platforms for underground electronic music, DJ talent, and live events, Scientific Sound Asia continues to highlight innovative voices from across the global scene.
Originally from Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection, spanning vinyl, cassette, CD, and digital formats, reflects a lifelong dedication to sound, format, and the preservation of underground culture.
Over the years, his musical journey has explored House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even as the Portuguese rave movement slowed in the late 1990s, Joshua stayed active, organising grassroots events and working with fellow DJs and producers to sustain the underground spirit.
After taking time away to focus on family, he returned with renewed creative energy. With his daughter grown, Joshua launched Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show that signalled his re-entry into DJing and broadcasting.
In 2023, he began releasing original productions under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each name represents a distinct side of his artistry, from melodic journeys to stripped-back, experimental sounds.
The momentum continued into 2024 with the launch of JFLM Recordings, his own label created to house his multifaceted productions. The imprint also serves as a space for innovative electronic music, further solidifying Joshua’s position in today’s global underground scene.
Floating Beats 703 opens with deep house warmth on Tomin Tomovic’s Story of a Bleeding Heart in the Ethan Poe Remix, setting an emotive tone before Tony Touch’s Apaga La Luz in DJ Sneak’s Latin Tech House rework injects percussive flair and club-ready energy. The shift into techno intensity comes with Uun’s Blood Money Redux, showcasing a raw, deep, and hypnotic drive.
Nicolas Barnes’ Latvian Streets adds a stripped-back yet powerful techno groove, paving the way for D. Diggler’s Suddenly Expected, which leans into the intricate textures of Minimal / Deep Tech. Nae-Tek and Stygmata’s Conception in D. Diggler’s remix keeps the hypnotic techno momentum flowing with dark undertones.
House grooves take the spotlight as Bushwacka! and Denney’s Our House (Dub) offers a smooth and understated dancefloor cut, while Kerri Chandler’s The Bassline in Kerri’s Dark Mix serves up a deep, driving house rhythm with his unmistakable production touch. Ruman’s Gas returns to the deep, hypnotic techno realm with pulsating bass and layered atmospheres.
Closing the mix, Raytech’s Unity, Stygmata’s The Vision, and Mark Thibideau’s Rotation all maintain a consistent techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) edge, wrapping up the episode with immersive, late-night energy. This blend of deep house, house, minimal/deep tech, techno, and tech house highlights DJ Joshua’s ability to weave together varied club styles into a seamless journey.
Be sure to catch his live radio show on Monday, August 11th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't tune in, a replay will be broadcast on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
