Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 697, presented by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a respected electronic music platform, DJ agency, and event organiser, Scientific Sound Asia continues to champion underground music culture throughout Asia and beyond.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been active in the electronic music scene since the mid-1990s. His wide-ranging collection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and digital media reflects a long-standing dedication to exploring music across all formats.
Over the years, Joshua has experimented with various genres including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even during the decline of Portugal’s rave culture in the late 1990s, he remained involved in the underground scene by collaborating with fellow artists and organising intimate events, helping to nurture the scene at its foundations.
Following a period away from broadcasting and live performance to prioritise family life, Joshua re-engaged with music as his daughter grew older. This led to the creation of Floating Beats, a radio show and podcast designed to showcase his renewed artistic focus and creative momentum.
In 2023, he expanded his output by producing original material under a range of aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, each representing a different expression of his musical identity, from richly melodic work to minimal and exploratory sounds.
Early in 2024, he founded JFLM Recordings, a label conceived to house his growing discography and forward-thinking musical vision. The imprint also serves as a creative platform, enabling Joshua to remain a significant force within the global electronic music scene through a consistent stream of curated and original releases.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 697 with Blue-Tek (Raw Mix) by Telephones, laying a vibrant House foundation. The groove flows smoothly into Rounded by Junes, a track whose deep, hypnotic energy introduces a more cerebral tone to the set. DJ Joshua keeps the pulse steady and raw, gradually intensifying the atmosphere.
The mood picks up with This Generation by his moniker Joshua Fernand, a driving techno number rich in rhythm and tone, followed by the bouncy Let’s Dance from Dillon Nathaniel, adding a tech house punch. Tracks like Shaker Hood by DJ 3000 and The Walker by Gunjack keep the groove moving between House and Raw/Deep/Hypnotic Techno textures.
Uncertain features prominently in this episode with both Difference and Ego, two excellent examples of the gritty, relentless energy characteristic of the Raw/Deep/Hypnotic style. Meanwhile, OFF_GRID’s Knockout and Ferdinger’s Every Friday (The Beat) inject high-octane power, propelling the mix into peak-time Techno territory.
As the episode enters its final stretch, I Get It by DJ Sun and Devotion by Elisa Bee continue to explore dynamic techno layers, raw and intense. Tal Fussman's Into the Chamber provides a closing touch of Melodic House & Techno tension, rounding off the set with a deep, polished finale.
