Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the newest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 696, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a leading electronic music platform, event organiser, and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia continues to support the underground scene across Asia and beyond.
Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has maintained a consistent presence in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His extensive collection, covering formats from vinyl and cassette to CDs and digital media, reflects a deep and enduring commitment to the exploration of sound in all its forms.
Throughout his career, Joshua has explored a wide range of styles, including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even as Portugal’s rave culture declined in the late 1990s, he remained active in the underground scene by collaborating with local artists and organising events in smaller venues, helping to sustain and develop the culture at the grassroots level.
After stepping back from performing and broadcasting to focus on family life, Joshua returned with renewed inspiration as his daughter grew older. This marked the beginning of Floating Beats, a podcast and radio show created to reflect his revitalised artistic energy and evolving musical direction.
In 2023, Joshua broadened his creative output by releasing original productions under several aliases, including K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam. Each alias highlights a distinct facet of his sound, ranging from melodic and textured compositions to minimalistic and experimental works.
In early 2024, he launched his own label, JFLM Recordings, which was established to support his expanding catalogue and artistic vision. The label also acts as a hub for creative development, allowing Joshua to maintain an active role in the global electronic music scene through a consistent stream of curated and original releases.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 696 with Acitone’s Outliers, diving straight into a powerful peak-time / Driving Techno groove. The momentum carries forward with Delta Dub 3 by Satoshi Tomiie & Tuccillo, offering a sleek Minimal / Deep Tech counterpoint before transitioning into the crisp Tech House rhythms of his moniker Joshua Onairam’s Easy Empathy.
John Digweed, Nick Muir, and Captain Mustache’s Bleu Cobalt (Alican Remix) shifts the tone into spacious Melodic Techno territory, while Vince Watson's Gliding introduces dreamy pads and harmonic textures typical of Melodic House & Techno. Moy Santana’s Ariake then returns the mix to hypnotic Techno terrain with a deep, looping pulse.
Victor Santana’s Jilter All Day injects a brief House interlude before Salbany’s Crossroads (Cisco Ferreira Lisbon Dub Remix) plunges back into darker Techno. Ian O’Donovan follows with the dense and immersive Heat Seeker, and Koichi Sugimoto’s Variable Adaptation continues the hypnotic Techno flow.
The show closes with the swirling Progressive House remix of Aubrey Fry’s Begone by Nick Stoynoff, and Greg Gow’s Night Shadows, a raw and shadowy Techno track that ends the session on a deep, driving note. With its seamless transitions and rich genre blend, this is another immersive and expertly curated journey from DJ Joshua.
Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Monday, June 23rd, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't listen then, a replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
