Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the newest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 695, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a leading electronic music platform, event organiser, and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia remains dedicated to supporting the underground scene throughout Asia and further afield.
Originating from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has maintained a steadfast presence in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His vast collection, spanning vinyl and cassette through to CDs and digital formats, demonstrates a profound and continuous commitment to discovering sound across all media.
During his career, Joshua has explored numerous styles, encompassing House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even when Portugal's rave culture started declining in the late 1990s, he continued working within local underground scenes by partnering with fellow artists and establishing events in smaller venues, contributing to the preservation and development of the culture at the grassroots level.
Following a hiatus from performing and broadcasting to concentrate on family responsibilities, Joshua rediscovered his enthusiasm as his daughter matured. This period signalled the start of Floating Beats, a podcast and radio programme created to showcase his revitalised energy and creative direction.
During 2023, Joshua expanded his musical output through original productions under multiple aliases: K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, with each name representing different elements of his sound, from rich melodic textures to minimal arrangements and experimental approaches.
At the beginning of 2024, he established his own label, JFLM Recordings, intended to provide a platform for his growing catalogue and creative vision. The imprint also serves as a centre for artistic development, enabling Joshua to sustain a significant role in the global electronic music community through regular releases of both curated and original material.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 695 with a relentless techno pulse, establishing the mood through Neverplace by Iglo and Equilibrium by Kr!z. Louis The 4th’s Drive System and Aero’s Caged Birds follow, cementing the episode’s hypnotic direction.
Uncertain’s Feel and R.M.K’s Keys carry the intensity forward with deep, tunnelling grooves. Marco Bailey delivers the driving Infinite Bunker, while Don Rimini & Jackin Trax inject a jacking funk with Gotcha!, maintaining the raw and rhythmic momentum.
In the final stretch, Tal Fussman’s Into the Chamber introduces a melodic shift, offering a brief but rich contrast to the heavy techno. S-File’s Digital Disorder (Mark Broom Remix) and Keith Carnal’s Altruism return to a darker edge.
DJ Joshua closes with Mark Broom’s Jazz Ting, adding an unexpected touch of house to wrap up this intense, expertly curated session. A must-listen for fans of deep, raw, hypnotic techno with subtle genre-crossing moments.
Remember to tune in to his live radio show on Monday, June 16th, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't listen then, a replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
