Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlist for Floating Beats Episode 693, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. As a leading electronic music station, DJ agency, and event promoter, Scientific Sound Asia continues to play a pivotal role in supporting and cultivating the underground scene across Asia and beyond.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been a central figure in electronic music since the mid-1990s. His impressive personal archive, which spans digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, demonstrates a lifelong commitment to musical exploration and the evolution of sound.
Over the years, Joshua has embraced an eclectic range of genres, including House, Techno, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Even during the decline of the Portuguese rave scene in the 1990s, he remained committed to fostering underground music culture. Working closely with fellow artists, he developed grassroots events in bars and clubs, transforming them into key venues for electronic experimentation and community connection.
After stepping back from radio and live performance to focus on fatherhood, Joshua reignited his musical path as his daughter grew older. This revival led to the creation of Floating Beats, a podcast and radio series that reflects his renewed passion and deep-rooted dedication to the craft.
In 2023, he expanded his artistic reach by diving deeper into music production. Using a range of aliases, K-Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand, and Joshua Onairam, he explored a variety of stylistic territories, from deep and melodic sounds to more experimental and minimalistic textures. Each pseudonym represents a distinct facet of his musical identity.
The momentum continued into 2024 with the launch of his own label, JFLM Recordings. Founded to showcase his growing body of work, the label also serves as a creative platform for his evolving sound. Through this outlet, Joshua maintains an active presence in the global electronic music community, producing and curating music that resonates with both seasoned listeners and new fans alike.
Floating Beats 693 reaffirms his unwavering commitment to quality, emotion, and genre-spanning storytelling, offering listeners a rich and immersive musical experience shaped by decades of devotion to the underground.
Floating Beats 693 launches with Affani’s “You Don’t” remixed by Gaby M, setting a slick Minimal / Deep Tech tone. Cosmjn’s “Attraction” adds hypnotic swing, while J. Gabriel & Chuffing Buffy’s “Fucked It Up” gets a quirky House remix treatment from Mr.C, keeping the rhythm playful yet underground.
Jon Hester then elevates the intensity with the driving energy of “Return”, marking the show’s first entry into Peak Time Techno. Ron Costa’s “Pisah” brings Tech House precision before Madben’s “Sparks” dives deeper into hypnotic textures with a Raw / Deep Techno edge.
Greg Gow’s “Music Is Not Cancelled” continues the Raw Techno direction, flowing into Ken Ishii’s “Back Fist”, which blends Progressive House depth with vintage flair. The energy climbs again with Ronnie Spiteri’s “Karma”, followed by Pina Tesla’s “Moving On”, both delivering solid Peak Time Techno power.
Traumer’s “Baud” pulls things back to groove-heavy Minimal territory, offering contrast and rhythm. As the episode nears its conclusion, CZ 101’s “Consequent” remixed by Ian Pooley closes with Classic Acid House elements, paying tribute to dancefloor heritage through a modern reinterpretation.
Don't forget to catch his live radio show on Monday, June 2nd, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you miss it, a replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
