Velvety Elements 319 on Scientific Sound Asia welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running show. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been part of electronic music culture since the 1990s, developing a broad musical perspective across vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats. While his interests have extended into techno, drum and bass and chillout over the years, house music has always sat at the centre of his approach.
He stayed active through quieter periods in Portugal's underground scene via event promotion, collaborations and support for local artists, before stepping back to focus on family. His return through Floating Beats re-established his presence in the radio community and provided a platform for deeper musical exploration.
Velvety Elements grew from that same creative direction, focusing on the warmer and more soulful side of house music. The show favours flowing grooves, rich textures and understated energy over immediate impact, building each episode around depth and continuity.
His studio output as Joshua Marian has been particularly active in recent months. Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes and Tengo Rojo and Restless Lips on 659 Records cover deep house and soulful house territory, while How to Play Guitar on his own JFLM Recordings steps into melodic house and techno.
A forthcoming two-track release on 14th Level Of Paradise, Always on my Mind and I Can Go, You Can See, continues that deep house direction and is due in July 2026. The K Joshua alias moves into rawer territory, with Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and As You Are on Liberty Rhythm covering hypnotic techno, dub techno and ambient influences.
In 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and collaborative work, dedicated to underground electronic music and long-term artistic development.
Velvety Elements 319 opens with Eddie Leader's Now Move on Chiwax, the House Music energy of that selection establishing the set's warm underground tone from the outset. Mick Jerome's Dive Deeper on Miura Records follows, the Deep House quality of that track sitting naturally alongside Mo'Cream's I Think It's Ok in the Oscar P Rework on Kolour Recordings.
Franck Roger's Canyon's Talk on Earthrumental Music develops the Deep House direction before Joshua Marian's U Got Me on Promo gives DJ Joshua a personal moment in the tracklist, the track appearing under his own production alias. Mick Jerome returns with Bus Seventy Seven, also on Miura Records, his second appearance of the set reinforcing the label's consistent Deep House character.
Alton Miller's Last One 1st in the Life Recorder Remix on Quintessentials and Byron the Aquarius's The Last Mile of The Way on Hard Times Records carry the set through Deep House and House territory, the latter's spiritual jazz-influenced Deep House approach providing one of the more distinctive moments of the episode. Kevin Yost's Why Me on I Records sustains the Deep House direction before Dompe's Reload on Definitive Recordings returns to a more straightforward House register.
Frederique NYE's Hurricane Murphy on Houseworx makes a second appearance across the Velvety Elements series before Tuccillo's Street Jungle on House of Tucci closes the episode on a Deep House note. Velvety Elements 319 is a focused and groove-driven piece of programming, DJ Joshua drawing from a tight network of Deep House and House labels to build a set that holds its warmth and underground character throughout.
Tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, the 16th of June 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time. If you miss the broadcast, a replay is available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. ICT.
