Scientific Sound Asia has introduced the latest playlists for DJ Joshua's radio shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements. As a key player in the Asian electronic music landscape, Scientific Sound Asia functions as a radio station, promoter, and DJ agency, significantly influencing the development of the electronic music community across Asia.
Hailing from Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been an integral part of the electronic music scene for many years. His extensive collection of digital files, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes underscores his unwavering dedication to the genre.
Throughout his career, DJ Joshua has excelled in various genres, including Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout. Despite the adversities faced by the rave scene in Portugal during the 1990s, Joshua remained steadfast in his commitment to electronic music.
Confronted with societal challenges and criticism, he devised innovative methods to create and disseminate his music. By frequently collaborating with other artists, he organised events in clubs and bars, transforming them into vital hubs for House and Techno aficionados, thereby extending his influence well beyond his immediate locale.
Following the birth of his child, DJ Joshua scaled back his involvement in events and radio to focus on his family. However, as his daughter grew older, his passion for music was reignited, leading him to launch the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. This programme is celebrated for its eclectic selection of electronic music, showcasing Joshua's remarkable mixing skills, discerning track choices, and emotional depth across various genres.
DJ Joshua perceives music as a spiritual refuge, guiding listeners on a sonic journey that transcends traditional artistic boundaries. In January 2024, he expanded his artistic reach by establishing JFLM Recordings, a record label dedicated to promoting his creative works and enhancing his production efforts.
In the latest episode of Floating Beats, DJ Joshua embarks on a profound journey through the realms of raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. The set opens with Bastian Balders' "The Unknown," setting a deep and immersive tone. Tracks like Iglo's "Solitude" and Benjamin Mull's "Keyknas" further delve into the depths of techno, characterized by their intricate rhythms and atmospheric layers.
As the mix progresses, the energy intensifies with peak-time tracks such as Hugo Rolan's "Future City" and JXTPS's "Quetzal," showcasing driving beats and dynamic progressions. The inclusion of Joshua Fernand's own track, "Sweaty Euro," adds a personal touch, blending dub elements seamlessly into the techno sound.
Transitioning into Velvety Elements 261, DJ Joshua shifts gears to explore the smoother side of electronic music. The set begins with Yuichi Inoue's "Good Morning Yesterday," introducing warm melodies and Deep House grooves. Capeesh Society's "Alive" and Chaos In the CBD's collaboration with Nathan Haines, "Sirena Deep," continue this soulful journey, infusing jazz influences into the house framework.
Joshua Marian's "Voices of Help" stands out as a highlight, offering introspective tones and showcasing Joshua's versatility as a producer. The mix further incorporates Jackin House vibes with Demuir and Tommy Largo's "On Dat High," before concluding with Larry Quest's "Father Fader," leaving listeners in a state of blissful reflection.
DJ Joshua's dual presentation in Floating Beats 689 and Velvety Elements 261 exemplifies his adeptness at navigating diverse electronic genres. From the depths of Hypnotic Techno to the uplifting rhythms of Soulful House, each set is curated with precision, offering listeners a comprehensive auditory experience.
