Scientific Sound Asia welcomes Blaze DJ for his next guest show 'Ministry of Breaks' 21 on our radio station. Scientific Sound Asia is the Asian electronic music station for the region with an international following.
Blaze DJ is a British DJ and producer originating from Walthamstow in the East End of London, U.K. His whole career and background have been associated with underground music culture and DJing.
According to the principle that it takes approximately 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill, for Blaze DJ, those hours were merely an apprenticeship. The London-based DJ has invested so much time into his craft that he has developed an almost intuitive connection with the decks, the music he plays, and his audience.
Growing up in a household immersed in a diverse mix of musical styles and genres, Blaze DJ cites his parents and siblings as his earliest influences. Exposure to Jazz, Funk, Disco, New Romantics, and 80s synth-pop shaped his musical taste.
However, it wasn't until he heard the cassette *House Sounds of Chicago Volume 1* in 1987, while still a schoolboy, that he discovered his true sound. From that moment, music became a vocation for Blaze DJ, influencing not only his nightlife but his entire career and every aspect of his life.
Beginning his DJ career at the tender age of 15, Blaze DJ quickly became a sought-after performer. From the humble surroundings of a local pub in Edmonton to residencies in Birmingham and Faliraki, often playing to crowds of up to 2,000 people, he has experienced all facets of the DJ profession. A genuine member of the Acid House generation, he considers himself "one of the lucky ones" to have witnessed the growth of the UK's electronic music scene from its inception to the present day.
Despite the passage of time, he brings the same enthusiasm and energy to his sets now, over thirty years later, as he did during the epic parties of the early 1990s. For Blaze DJ, it has always been about house music. Influenced by artists from the early days to the present, he has woven his inspirations into a unique sound. Think classic house with a hint of breaks, a touch of acid, and a sprinkling of techno, and you'll begin to understand Blaze DJ's style.
Blaze DJ's impact was not limited to his performances. Having worked in DJ shops, he became the first retailer in the country to combine DJing and production equipment under one roof, revolutionising retail for the electronic music community. In 2005, feeling a loss of passion for performance, he decided to retire from DJing while continuing to work in the music industry as an audio-visual designer and consultant, contributing to the sound systems of some of the world's most famous clubs.
After a fifteen-year hiatus, the spark was reignited, and Blaze DJ returned to the scene with renewed enthusiasm and a desire to perform at the highest level once more. He has certainly hit the ground running, securing three monthly radio slots with Ibiza Club News, Underground Kollektiv, and Scientific Sound Asia, despite recent global events.
Now equipped with a full catalogue of unreleased music and releasing under Industrial Force and Zeta Records, he is ready to make a significant impact on the club scene again. One of the hardest-working DJs in the global breaks scene, Blaze DJ has been honing his craft for over 30 years. His brand, Ministry of Breaks, has gained traction over the past two years, earning a reputation for its unique blend of breaks, bass, and bleeps, with new music set for release soon.
The year 2022 was significant for Blaze DJ, featuring his first Beatport release "London Bass" on ONE7AUDIO and major Ministry of Breaks events, including an all-day party in June and the launch of Breaks n Bass. Looking ahead, 2023 appears promising for Blaze DJ and Ministry of Breaks, with a new remix of X-Static's "Murderous Style" ready for release and more projects in the pipeline. Additionally, the new MOB YouTube channel is set to launch soon.
This show originally aired on Friday, 27th January 2023, from 6 PM to 8 PM Indochina Time (ICT), with a repeat on Tuesday from 6 AM to 8 AM (ICT). You can listen to the show on the players below.
