Bicycle Corporation has announced guest DJ Brendon Perera for their Roots episode 174. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, music news platform, DJ agency and promoter, connecting artists and audiences across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian duo formed by Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have released a wide catalogue of music spanning Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno, combining club-focused energy with musical depth and structured production.
Marco Mei began his career in the early 1990s, working within the underground scene through collectives such as Urban People. Over time, he built a reputation across Italy before expanding internationally, securing bookings across Europe, Asia and beyond. His development as a DJ reflects both technical ability and a strong connection to dancefloor culture.
Stefano, originally from Turin, showed early promise as a musician. His studies in classical piano, percussion and drums, alongside an appreciation for composers such as Chopin and rhythms like the West African djembe, helped shape a detailed understanding of musical structure. Despite this classical foundation, it was electronic music and DJ culture that ultimately drew his focus.
During the 1990s, when underground electronic sounds were less accessible through mainstream Italian radio stations, Stefano became increasingly driven to explore and create within the genre. This determination, combined with Marco’s experience, led to the formation of Bicycle Corporation, a project built on shared vision, discipline and long-term commitment to electronic music.
Despite their continued success, the duo remain closely connected to their origins. In recent years, they have revisited earlier productions and made them available through digital platforms, offering listeners insight into the evolution of their sound over time.
The Roots series reflects this philosophy, inviting DJs and producers connected to the wider electronic music community to contribute sets that explore musical foundations and influences. Episode 174 welcomes Brendon P, whose decades of experience and broad musical range align naturally with the ethos of the show, bringing a perspective shaped by house, disco, soul and underground club culture.

Guest DJ Brendon P.
Brendon Perera, better known as DJ Brendon P, is a Singaporean DJ and producer recognised for his low-profile, lo-fi approach and more than four decades of experience behind the decks. His career began in 1980 within Singapore’s mobile DJ circuit before transitioning into club environments the following year, marking the start of a long-standing presence in the region’s nightlife.
A formative moment came during a visit to New York City in 1984, where exposure to venues such as the Funhouse, Paradise Garage, Danceteria and Area introduced him to the foundations of New York club culture. These experiences played a key role in shaping his musical direction, particularly the evolution of early house music and its connection to disco, soul and underground dance scenes.
Over the years, his sound has developed across a wide musical spectrum. While rooted in house and techno, his selections also draw from disco, nu disco, funk, soul, lounge and electronica, reflecting a broad and informed approach built through both local and international experience. His sets are characterised by attention to detail, musical depth and an emphasis on flow rather than spectacle.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Brendon P built a strong reputation through club residencies and performances with groups such as Juliana’s and Bacchus, followed by residencies with Neo Pharaohs, Venom and NOX. A significant chapter in his career came with a nine-year residency at Zouk Club Singapore, one of Asia’s most influential venues. He later held a residency at Kyo between 2001 and 2009 and became part of the resident team at CE LA VI Singapore, maintaining a consistent presence within the region’s club circuit.
His international experience includes performances in cities such as Geneva, Gothenburg, Melbourne, London, New York, Miami, Taipei, Hanoi and Hong Kong. In June 2010, he also appeared at the now-closed Cielo Club in New York, further extending his reach within the global underground scene.
Alongside his DJ career, Brendon P has released original productions and remixes across a range of respected labels, including In The Woods, Los Grandes, Reversoulmusic, Audio Parallax, Hotbox Music, Soul Shift, Defected, Rawjak, Eclesia, Issys Groove, Love International and One With Music. His studio work reflects the same musical discipline found in his DJ sets, focusing on groove, balance and sonic detail.
Known for his commitment to style, consistency and musical integrity, he has earned recognition from industry figures such as Nicolas Mattar, who described him as a “taste master” and one of the region’s finest DJs. His sets continue to move across genres and eras, connecting past, present and future through a refined and deeply rooted understanding of dance music culture.
Roots 174 by DJ Brendon P opens with Jimpster and Mavhungu’s Tribute, setting a deep and soulful tone before Tigerbalm introduces a lighter Disco groove with Nina. Kingdom Of Kaffa and General Ehi Duncan expand the palette with African rhythms and Funk elements, creating a strong global foundation early in the mix.
Momentum builds through Bernardo Pinheiro and The Amazon Orchestra, where Virabrequim blends Boogie and Disco influences, while Alkalino introduces a Tech House edge with The African Way. João Bosco brings a shift in texture with O Ronco Da Cuica, adding Brazilian influences that contrast with the club-driven selections.
The middle section deepens through Philippa and Recloose, where Rainy Nights and Dust maintain a smooth Deep House flow. Paul Weller’s rework introduces a more organic moment, while 2000 Black and Quantic move into Broken Beat and Future Jazz territory, adding rhythmic complexity.
A return to groove-led House comes with Ultraflex and 40 Thieves, where Work Out Tonight and Don’t Turn It Off bring a steady, dancefloor-friendly energy. Underground System continues this direction, blending Afrobeat, Disco and Broken Beat into a layered and evolving section.
The later stages revisit Disco and Boogie through Bernardo Pinheiro’s original mix of Virabrequim, while Brand New Heavies bring Acid Jazz influences with You Are The Universe. Terry Callier follows with a soulful House and Garage House blend, adding depth and vocal richness.
The closing stretch moves into warmer territory with Gichy Dan’s Beachwood #9, where On A Day Like Today introduces Latin Disco elements. Across the full session, DJ Brendon P delivers a diverse and globally influenced mix, combining Disco, Soul, Afro and Deep House with a consistent and carefully balanced flow.
