Terence C, an esteemed guest DJ from Bicycle Corporation, is poised to unveil his upcoming programme, Electronic Roots 129, on Scientific Sound Asia. Renowned as Asia's premier electronic dance music station, as well as a promoter and DJ agency, Scientific Sound Asia engages audiences both locally and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is a collaboration between Italian DJ and producer Marco Mei and the accomplished producer Stefano Ugliano, who is professionally known as 6884. Together, they have produced and remixed over 50 original tracks within the House and Techno genres, significantly impacting the electronic music community.

Marco commenced his DJ career in the early 1990s, inspired by the burgeoning electronic music scene and Afro-centric rhythms. As he entered the industry, he founded Urban People, an organisation that hosted House and Techno events throughout Italy. This initiative allowed Marco to deepen his understanding of sound and hone his event management skills, ultimately leading to a residency at Pacha in Egypt.

This pivotal role bolstered his reputation, opening doors to international DJ opportunities that marked the beginning of his global career. His tenure at Pacha ignited a fervent desire to share his talents with audiences worldwide.

Stefano, originally from Torino, Italy, exhibited remarkable musical aptitude from a young age. Encouraged by his parents to pursue a career in music, he dedicated himself to classical piano, percussion, and drums, drawing inspiration from a diverse array of musical styles, including Chopin and West African rhythms. This eclectic background has profoundly influenced his contributions to electronic music.

Stefano's early exposure to various music genres provided a solid foundation for his artistic journey. His fascination with electronic music began in the 1990s, a period when it was rarely featured on Italian radio, yet its rhythms and melodies captivated him.

Despite their numerous accomplishments, Marco and Stefano remain grounded. They have revisited some of their earlier works, reaffirming their commitment to their musical roots. Recently, they launched a Bandcamp page to showcase their creations, underscoring their dedication to preserving their artistic legacy.

Electronic Roots, hosted by Marco and Stefano, is a radio programme centred on House and Techno, providing a platform for prominent artists across Asia. This initiative celebrates the vibrant Asian electronic music scene and fosters international connections and collaborations.

Terence C, a renowned DJ and producer from Malaysia, is the highlight of this week's programme. Now based in Shanghai, China, Terence boasts an impressive career that spans over two decades.

Throughout his professional journey, Terence has held residencies at leading clubs in Kuala Lumpur, firmly establishing himself as a pivotal figure in Malaysia's House and Techno music scenes. His ongoing contributions have garnered him significant recognition within the electronic music community.

Terence has had the privilege of opening for iconic artists such as David Morales, Fatboy Slim, and Pete Tong, creating an electrifying atmosphere for their performances. His exceptional DJing skills and ability to energise audiences have made him a highly sought-after choice for prestigious events, further enhancing his reputation.

His collaboration with John Digweed is particularly esteemed, as Digweed frequently invites Terence to perform as the opening act at his shows in Kuala Lumpur. They have shared the stage on numerous occasions, leaving a lasting impact on the esteemed Zouk Club brand in Malaysia.

Zouk is globally celebrated among electronic music enthusiasts, primarily due to its vibrant live performances. Terence's association with Digweed underscores his influence and vital contribution to Malaysia's dynamic nightlife scene.

Before the pandemic, Terence partnered with DJ XU, a prominent figure in Kuala Lumpur, to co-host monthly Techno events at Zouk titled "We Love Techno." This initiative aimed to introduce audiences to the underground sounds of labels such as Drumcode and Cocoon Recordings.

Under Terence's guidance, "We Love Techno" evolved into a premier platform for innovative electronic music and emerging Techno artists. Terence’s expertise, combined with DJ XU’s influence, significantly enriched Kuala Lumpur’s electronic music landscape, providing fans with an unforgettable auditory experience.

Terence began his career in 1998 under the mentorship of DJ Chris Doss, quickly gaining recognition in Malaysia. He frequently performed at venues such as Cubeat and Globar, steadily advancing within the music industry.

A pivotal moment in Terence's career occurred when he was selected to open for David Morales at his inaugural show in Malaysia. This opportunity propelled Terence into the spotlight, solidifying his stature in the local electronic music scene.

In the early 2000s, Terence gained further acclaim as a resident DJ at Movement Club in Malaysia. He also performed at notable venues such as Backroom, Nouvo, and Atmosphere, playing a crucial role in the vibrant electronic music landscape of Malaysia.

Terence's influence extends beyond the nightlife of Kuala Lumpur, impacting the broader Southeast Asian music scene. He has graced prestigious venues like Lush in Singapore and Liquid in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2005, he co-founded Altered Image, an audio-visual project that merges innovative sounds with captivating visuals.

Through collaborations with artists Callen Tham and Digital, Terence transformed performance art into a multimedia experience with significant impact. Altered Image won the Malaysian segment of the Heineken Thirst competition, leading to a tour across Southeast Asia.

Altered Image revolutionised the electronic scene with cinematic visuals, turntable expertise, and live effects that captivated audiences on the dance floor. This achievement marked a significant chapter in Terence's creative journey, enhancing his artistic legacy.

Recently, Terence has embraced the Ableton Live production suite, honing his technical skills to elevate his sound. By integrating software with decks and CDJs, he continually pushes the boundaries of live performance.

Terence's production efforts are gaining momentum, with multiple new releases anticipated in the coming year. Audiences in Southeast Asia can look forward to a deeper connection with his evolving sound.

As a prominent DJ in Malaysia, Terence is swiftly establishing himself within Asia's electronic music scene. His radio show on our station, featuring House and Techno, exemplifies his commitment to exploring innovative sounds.

The episode launches with Sam Goku’s "Temple Arp," setting a meditative tone before shifting into the indie dance pulse of Vini Pistori’s "Sanctify Your Love" and the deep, textured house of Santos' "Age Of Gold." Terence C introduces subtle groove layers with Stelios Vassiloudis and Rokazer, building into melodic progression with Voltaire and D.Ramirez & Denney.

As the mix evolves, the set intensifies with Sascha Funke’s moody indie dance tones before launching into a solid run of raw, deep and hypnotic techno. DJ Hyperactive & Truncate deliver back-to-back force with “Trust The Process” and “Universal Function,” leading seamlessly into the driving atmospheres of Shlomi Aber, Cari Lekebusch, and Christian Smith & John Selway.

The tempo remains fierce and focused with Aquatrax and Planetary Assault Systems injecting late-night energy, before lightening the mood briefly with a retro-tinged house cut by The Hacker & Endrik Schroeder Project. Ian O’Donovan and Cortona guide us back toward layered progressive house structures, rekindling the melodic and emotional thread.

The finale sees Sasha & Artche’s “Hold On” and Vini Pistori’s “Airport Sunrise” merge lush melodies with floor-driven power. The journey closes with DCLVIII OFC’s breakbeat-laced electro hybrid “Brain Exploded,” underlining Terence C’s ability to connect past, present, and future club sounds in one cohesive mix.
