Scientific Sound Asia, the leading Asian electronic music station, DJ agency, and event promoter for the region and beyond, welcomes Bicycle Corporation's guest to its Roots show series. Bicycle Corporation, the Italian DJ and producer duo, proudly presents DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, as a special guest for the latest instalment.

Bicycle Corporation comprises Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, the latter more widely recognised under his alias, 6884. The duo have been making waves in the electronic music world, combining their deep knowledge of house, techno, and beyond to deliver standout sets and productions across global stages.

Marco Mei began his musical journey in the early 1990s, initially working behind the scenes for events such as Urban People. His dedication to the craft quickly paid off, earning him bookings across Italy and eventually leading to international recognition. His refined style and seasoned approach have made him a sought-after figure within the global electronic music scene.

Stefano Ugliano, hailing from Turin, Italy, showed musical promise from a young age. With a passion for sound, he studied classical piano, percussion, and drums, drawing inspiration from both European greats like Chopin and the rhythms of West African djembe. Yet despite his broad musical education, it was the art of DJing that captivated him most, an underground passion at a time when such sounds were rarely heard on Italian radio.

For many, producing and performing such music would have remained a distant dream, but Stefano was undeterred. With vision, persistence, and commitment, he joined forces with Marco Mei to form Bicycle Corporation, a project built on shared passion and complementary skills.

Despite their success, Marco and Stefano remain grounded and connected to their roots. Recently, they have revisited their earlier works and launched a Bandcamp page to share these productions with a wider audience, offering fans a glimpse into the foundation of their musical journey.

Guest DJ Murphy Kin.

This week, Roots welcomes guest DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, an artist driven by an insatiable curiosity and a passion for sonic exploration. Originally hailing from the film industry, DJ Lucy brings a cinematic sensibility to his DJ sets and music production, crafting experiences that are as visual as they are auditory.

Listening to DJ Lucy is like watching a film unfold. His sets are full of emotional shifts and unexpected turns, never sticking to a predictable 4/4 beat, and rarely delivering instant gratification.

Instead, he builds patiently, taking listeners on a journey that begins with a slow, immersive introduction and moves through a wide-ranging palette of genres. Expect everything from romantic rock, classic old-school cuts, and flirtatious R&B to disco, indie, rock, and dance, all woven together with precision and flair.

DJ Lucy’s performances evoke scenes from a movie, reaching moments of emotional climax through carefully crafted beat progressions. Positive, energetic, and musically versatile, he draws from a broad spectrum of genres including hip-hop, rock, punk, indie rock, and jazz.

His sets aim to capture emotions through rhythm, switching styles seamlessly while keeping the crowd fully engaged. As the driving force behind Ting Ting Disco, DJ Lucy has been curating standout events across Taipei and Shanghai since 2015.

By 2017, the project expanded its reach, touring other cities across China and throughout Asia. In 2021, Ting Ting Disco began releasing online music, collecting and curating productions from around the globe to offer music lovers a broader selection of genre-defying sounds.

On stage, DJ Lucy defies convention. He doesn’t follow rules or stick to a script, sometimes guided by the energy in the room, sometimes steering it entirely. Like a film director, he shapes the mood and directs the emotional arc of the night, proving himself to be not just a DJ but a true storyteller through sound.

Murphy Kin's Roots 142 begins with a solid stretch of house tracks, opening with Callisto’s "Allison’s Lair" and moving into the club-ready energy of Taras Van De Voorde’s "1998." Baltra’s emotive "Fu2uR3" and a still-unidentified House cut add depth, while Robert Quimet & Miguel Grace and Sartorial keep the energy flowing with classic and uplifting House selections.

The set expands into funk, soul, and disco textures with Bobby Thurston’s "Check Out The Groove" and Scrimshire’s edit of The Expansions. These are followed by a rich run of Nu-Disco and Deep House from Austin Ato and Sartorial, as well as the contemporary flavour of Ruf Dug and Rollover DJs' selections blending Electronica and Disco edits.

In the second half, Murphy Kin journeys deeper into raw grooves and hypnotic layers with tracks like Roza Terenzi’s “Lo-fi Roller” and Samuele De Santis’ Afro House track “Risaie.” The transitions into Electronic Breaks and Progressive House further enrich the set’s genre diversity. Pezzner’s “Apollo” and Roza Terenzi’s “Soft” showcase experimental textures and compelling rhythms.

The set closes with a burst of Nu-Disco warmth and Deep House class. Sartorial, Robert Quimet & Dave Godin, and Phazed Groove light up the final quarter with shimmering Disco edits, while Pelifics and Billy Cave wrap up the show with lush House and Deep House that leave a lasting impression.
