REYUS announces debut album ‘I’m Listening’ with ‘Around You’

Originally from Florida and now based in Manchester, Alyssa Thomas writes emotionally direct songs around love, heartbreak and experiences that can be difficult to articulate. She began sharing original music online in her early teens and has since built an independent catalogue spanning Pop and BPM-led production. That background makes her a natural fit for ‘Around You’, where the vocal provides a human centre for REYUS’s wider electronic framework.

Independent British electronic artist REYUS has announced his debut album, ‘I’m Listening’, introducing the 20-track project with ‘Around You’ featuring vocalist Alyssa Thomas. The single arrives on 21st August, followed by the album on 25th September.

The scale of the record reflects the way REYUS has deliberately resisted settling into one narrow lane. Electronic music, House, Garage and Techno meet Pop and Rock across a project conceived as a portrait of changing moods rather than a collection built for one type of dance floor. Its subject matter moves through anxiety, relationships, internal dialogue and human connection, linking club energy with more private forms of listening.

That range is rooted in a long-standing creative position. Based in Dorking, south of London, REYUS began composing as a child and played his first club show at sixteen. After years working through the underground under different aliases, he established his own label and company, retaining ownership of his catalogue and the freedom to release music without reshaping it for somebody else’s genre expectations.

Earlier interviews make clear that independence has involved real risk as well as artistic control. REYUS has spoken openly about self-financing his career and turning down arrangements that did not value the work appropriately. ‘I’m Listening’ turns that philosophy into an album-sized statement: not genrelessness for novelty, but the ability to follow an idea wherever it leads.

‘Around You’ provides the first entry point. Alyssa Thomas brings a vocal perspective to a song that positions personal storytelling at the front of REYUS’s production, setting up an album intended to move between direct songs and club-focused material. The wider project was recorded across Hackney, Dorking and Ibiza, environments that mirror its balance between home-studio reflection, London experimentation and dance-floor experience.

REYUS cites Four Tet, Jamie xx, Bicep and Fred again.. among the reference points behind this open-ended approach. His own catalogue has already received support from Tiësto, Gorgon City, Vintage Culture, Diplo, Solomun, Mau P and CamelPhat, while his 2025 REYUS & Friends dates took him through venues including E1, Studio 338, Ministry of Sound, Café Mambo and 528 Ibiza.

For REYUS, the album represents the artist he imagined becoming as a child: one able to make records for different moods, some intended for dancing and others simply for close listening. That idea gives the title its double meaning—an invitation to hear the stylistic range, but also to pay attention to the emotions and experiences underneath it.
