Scientific Sound Asia has unveiled the latest playlists for DJ Joshua’s celebrated shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements. DJ Joshua, a renowned Portuguese DJ from Évora, is widely admired for his deep passion for electronic dance music. His extensive collection, which includes digital tracks, vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, reflects his commitment to a broad spectrum of genres, including deep house, techno, progressive house, and more.
In his early years, DJ Joshua devoted considerable time to perfecting his DJ skills and curating a diverse range of music styles, such as deep house, techno, drum and bass, and chillout. The 1990s in Portugal were marked by a cultural clash as the rise of rave and underground music, especially techno, faced significant societal resistance.
Undeterred, DJ Joshua persisted, sharing his music through underground channels and organising house and techno events at various clubs and bars. His efforts played a crucial role in developing the local music scene, attracting fans from different cities and establishing a strong foundation for house and techno in Portugal.
After the birth of his first child, DJ Joshua took a hiatus from event planning and radio hosting to focus on his family. However, as his daughter grew, his passion for music was reignited, leading to the creation of the Floating Beats podcast and radio show. This weekly programme delivers a dynamic mix of electronic music genres, offering listeners a captivating and immersive experience. The first hour of Floating Beats features a varied selection of tracks, blending different styles to craft a unique listening journey.
In the second hour, DJ Joshua explores the deeper and more melodic aspects of house music with Velvety Elements. This segment delves into the rich emotional depth and intricate rhythms of deep house and melodic techno, presenting a thoughtfully curated selection of tracks that highlight the genre’s distinctive qualities.
