DJ Joshua has released the latest tracklists for his weekly radio shows, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia. The station continues to operate as a key Asian electronic music platform and DJ agency, with a strong international following.
DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ and music collector from Évora. His deep connection to electronic music is rooted in an extensive personal archive spanning vinyl, CDs, cassettes and digital formats, reflecting years of dedicated digging and listening across multiple genres.
During his teenage years, Joshua developed an intense fascination with electronic music, collecting styles such as House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and Techno. Countless hours were spent crate-digging in record shops and refining his mixing skills at home, shaping the wide-ranging musical awareness that has since become one of his defining traits as a DJ.
At a time when underground electronic music had limited exposure on Portuguese airwaves, Joshua actively pushed for representation on local radio. His persistence paid off with a series of radio residencies, allowing him to share his passion with a wider audience and help introduce new sounds to a growing community of listeners.
As his involvement deepened, Joshua began hosting and playing events in local clubs and bars alongside close collaborators, further strengthening his connection to the scene. Following the birth of his first child, he stepped away from DJing for a period to focus on family life, temporarily placing music on hold.
That break ultimately led to a renewed creative direction. As his daughter grew older, Joshua returned to broadcasting with a fresh perspective, launching Floating Beats as a new radio show dedicated to immersive, forward-thinking electronic music. The series quickly gained traction online and is now broadcast internationally, reaching listeners well beyond Portugal.
Seeking another outlet for a deeper and more soulful side of his taste, Joshua later introduced Velvety Elements. This second weekly show focuses on warm, groove-led house music, complementing the melodic and atmospheric direction of Floating Beats. Together, both programmes are now transmitted across a wide selection of platforms and stations worldwide.
Joshua summarises his approach simply: “Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotion and make the body move. This is a place where sounds can float and eventually fall onto your body. Enjoy it.”
Across his weekly broadcasts, DJ Joshua explores a broad spectrum of House and Techno, regularly featuring Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno, always guided by flow, emotion and musical depth.
Floating Beats 530 opens with a deep, groove-led mood, leaning into soulful and Detroit-influenced house before expanding into melodic progressive territory. Vince Watson and Kirk Degiorgio’s Variable Slope in the Marquis Hawkes remix sets the tone with warm bass movement and funk-driven swing, immediately grounding the mix in deep house tradition.
The flow builds steadily through Ian O’Donovan’s Bajau, where Bedrock’s signature progressive lift introduces emotional synth movement without losing subtlety. Tracks like Evren Ulusoy’s Caligula and Trecci & Southsoniks’ Malcolm maintain a hypnotic pace, blending dub textures with late-night warmth.
Midway through, Ale Valenzuela’s Todo Esta Bien and Scope’s Capture reinforce a smooth, reassuring groove, while JGarrett’s Tracer 01 adds a slightly rawer, looping edge. Jules Wells & Theobald Ringer’s The Centaur and Lois’ Start keep things melodic yet restrained. The hour closes on a more expansive note with John Digweed and Nick Muir’s Satellite in Satoshi Fumi’s remix, bringing atmospheric progression and emotional depth to round off the set with poise.
Velvety Elements 102 shifts fully into deep house territory, favouring soulful restraint and timeless club warmth. AFM’s Moments of Life opens with reflective pads and a rolling groove, setting a relaxed but focused tone for the hour.
Henrik Villard’s I Don’t Mind and Ezequiel G’s C’Mere deliver laid-back swing and Robsoul-style funk, while Agnès’ Common Dissectors strips things back to minimal, hypnotic elements. Paul Rudder’s Experience and Enrico Mantini’s What You Like lean into classic deep house sensibilities, rich in rhythm and vocal texture.
The second half highlights underground heritage through DJ Steaw’s Dirty Karma and X-Press 2’s London X-Press, before Makam’s The Hague Soul and Milton Jackson’s Remember add melodic warmth and emotional continuity. Rawdio’s Soft Mood and Dan Corco’s Long Long Time close the session with intimate, late-night deep house elegance.
