Marco Mei has published the tracklist for episode 14 of 2021, broadcast on Saturday the 3rd of April. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music news outlet and events promoter covering electronic music across Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond.
An Italian DJ and producer with over thirty years of experience, Marco Mei has always drawn from a wider pool than most. Afrobeat, funk and early synthesised music were the entry points, and the sensibility that came with them has coloured his approach to selection and production throughout a career that began in the early 1990s.
The Pacha Club residency in Sharm-El-Sheikh was an early sign of his growing reach, and the circuit it opened led to appearances at Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk. Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void are among the artists he has appeared alongside at those venues and beyond.
Bicycle Corporation, his production partnership with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, has been running since 2009, with 17:44 Records as its original home and releases spread across Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox. The duo has recently returned to their earliest material, making it available through their Bandcamp page alongside a catalogue that now runs to over fifty tracks and remixes across deep house, tech house, French house and techno.
Taipei remains his base, where regular events have kept him connected to a growing network of artists and promoters across South East Asia. Bookings are available through the Scientific Sound Asia radio station and DJ agency, and he can be found on Facebook.
Marco Mei's show from 3rd April 2021 opens across a broader genre range than most episodes in the series, BLONDISH's Waves featuring Grace Tither setting a Melodic House and Techno tone before AVIRA and Diana Miro's The Worship in the Patrice Bäumel Remix on Armada develops the atmospheric quality. Earth Trax's Ambient Dance sustains that melodic direction before Fred Everything and Robert Owens's I'll Take You In in the BDTW Acid Mix shifts the register into House Music and Acid House territory.
Keinemusik's Discoteca and Sofie Komenda's Tunno in the INVŌKER Remix carry the set through a stretch of Tech House and Melodic House territory before No Smoke's Koro-Koro and Coco Stell and Lovebomb's Feel It return to a warmer House register. Roman Flügel's D.I.S.C.O. introduces a Nu Disco quality before Dance System's This Thing and JKriv's Make It Hot in the Ray Mangs High Pressure Dub sustain the groove.
Shygirl's TASTY in the Boys Noize Remix brings an electro-inflected Tech House edge before Truncate and Catz n Dogz's Body Control and Ardalan's I Can't Wait in the Delano Smith Reconstructed version carry the set through a Deep House mid-section. Tim Engelhardt and Hannah Noelle's Touch the Sky in the Sam Shure Remix returns to Melodic House and Techno territory before Vinicius Honorio's The Last Dark Cloud sustains the deeper direction.
Frazier's Feel The Vibe and Anja Schneider's All I See in the 2021 Edit carry the set back into Tech House before Farley Jackmaster Funk and The Shy Boyz's U Ain't Really House arrives as a pointed editorial statement, the Chicago pioneer's title functioning almost as a challenge to the listener. Nosssia and Fenix J's Asuna makes another appearance across the series before Matador contributes two consecutive Techno selections, Eightball and Higher, pushing the set into its hardest and most driving phase.
Basstrologe's Somebody To Love offers a brief Nu Disco respite before Ellen Allien's Walking In The Dark in the Keith Carnal Remix on BPitch and Green Velvet's La La Land in the Layton Giordani Remix close the episode with peak time Techno energy. The latter is a reworking of a 2001 Chicago House and Techno classic, Giordani's contemporary Drumcode-adjacent approach giving it a fresh context while preserving the original's unmistakable character.
Marco Mei's 3rd April 2021 broadcast is one of the most genre-varied episodes in the series, moving from Melodic House and Techno through Tech House, Deep House and peak time Techno across a wide-ranging and energetic tracklist.
