Marco Mei has published the tracklist for episode 13 of 2021, broadcast on Saturday, the 27th of March. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music news outlet and events promoter covering electronic music across Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond.
Marco Mei brings over three decades of experience to his weekly show, with roots stretching back to the afrobeat and synthesised music scenes that shaped his early taste before he began DJing professionally in Italy in the early 1990s. That background set the tone for a career defined by range and adaptability rather than a fixed sound.
His Facebook page documents a career that has taken in residencies, festival slots and club appearances across multiple continents. The Pacha Club residency in Sharm-El-Sheikh was a pivotal step, followed by dates at Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk, with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void among his booth partners over the years.
Bicycle Corporation, the project he has run with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, since 2009, gave his studio work a focused outlet through 17:44 Records. Releases on Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox have built a catalogue of over fifty tracks and remixes across deep house, tech house, French house and techno that has earned the duo a respected place in the underground.
Taipei has been his base for a number of years, and regular events there have helped cement a network of artists and promoters across South East Asia. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia radio station and DJ agency.
Marco Mei's show from 27th March 2021 opens with Fred Again and The Blessed Madonna's Marea (We've Lost Dancing) on Atlantic, the track's emotionally charged vocal and Deep House architecture making it one of the most resonant opening selections across the series. Recorded during the pandemic lockdowns and built around a sampled speech by the Blessed Madonna herself lamenting the loss of dancing, its placement here feels entirely deliberate.
House People's Godfather Of House in the Maslow Unknown Re-Vibe and Jazzanova's I'm Still Here in the Larse Remix follow, the latter's Nu Jazz and Deep House qualities providing a warm mid-tempo contrast. Maurice Joshua and Joyce Hurley's We Fall Down in the Oscar P Connected Retouch delivers a Soulful House and Gospel moment before Ready In Led's Whatever in the Gerd Janson Dance Pop Remix introduces a Nu Disco lightness.
Kleio's Losing My Mind and Denham Audio's Club Culture shift the set back into Deep House and Tech House territory before Ten City's Devotion in the Marshall Jefferson Extended Mix arrives as one of the more historically significant selections of the show. The Chicago group's gospel-inflected House Music sits alongside Marshall Jefferson's production credit as a direct link to the genre's foundational moment.
Djuma Soundsystem and Emok's Osuga featuring Olith in the Hyenah Remix introduces an Afro House quality before Studio Apartment and Monique Bingham's Sun Ra Was Right in the Kususa Remix makes its second appearance in consecutive Marco Mei shows. Tim Engelhardt's Connected In Silence brings a Melodic House and Techno quality before Scuba's Too Strong in the Nicole Moudaber Remix on Circus Recordings pushes the set into harder Techno territory.
Command V's Hello in the Phil Kieran Remix and Nina Kraviz's Pain In The Ass in the Jonatas C Edit sustain the harder direction, the Russian producer's track among the most driving selections of the show. Technasia's Bring It Back and Two Armadillos's Theme carry the set through its later mid-section before Whyt Noyz's Plastic Dreams adds an acid-inflected edge.
Ninetoes's Same Same and Maur's Set You Free featuring Faber close the episode on a deeper, more melodic note, the latter's Deep House and Melodic House qualities providing a measured resolution to a show that moved between warmth and intensity throughout. Marco Mei's 27th March 2021 broadcast is one of the more dramatically varied episodes in the series, the emotional opening of Marea giving way to driving Techno in the middle third before the closing selections bring the mood back down.
