This October, Tokyo will become the heartbeat of global DJ culture as it hosts the Technics DMC World DJ Championships for the first time ever in Asia. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, alongside 60 years of Technics, this historic edition marks a milestone for the art of turntablism and the culture that has grown around it.
Since its inception in London in 1985, the DMC World Championships have been the proving ground for legends such as DJ Craze, Mix Master Mike, A-Trak, and many more. Japan itself has given the world some of the most innovative champions to grace the decks, from DJ Kentaro—the first Asian world champion and still the record-holder for the highest score ever—to DJ Izoh, DJ Rena, and DJ Matsunaga of Creepy Nuts. With this year’s finals set in Tokyo, the championship returns the spotlight to one of its most influential homes.
A New Era for DMC
The 2025 edition promises not only to honour its long legacy but also to showcase the future of DJ artistry. Alongside the Classic six-minute routines, the knock-out Supremacy battles, and the Scratch contest, the relatively new Open category will highlight DJs who push boundaries with creativity, technical skills, and storytelling through sound.
The event will also host Hall of Fame inductions, celebrating pioneers and innovators who have shaped DMC history over the past four decades. With Japan’s deep-rooted culture of precision, innovation, and showmanship, this year’s competition is set to be a landmark gathering for DJs and fans worldwide.
