Velvety Elements returns with another carefully curated session from DJ Joshua on Scientific Sound Asia. The platform operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, while also releasing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has maintained a deep connection with electronic music culture since the 1990s. His journey through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of involvement with underground music, helping shape a broad musical perspective that continues to influence both his DJ sets and studio productions.
While his musical interests have extended into techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music remains at the heart of his artistic identity. His approach focuses on groove, atmosphere and emotional resonance, combining classic house influences with contemporary sounds while maintaining a strong connection to underground dance music culture.
Throughout periods when Portugal's electronic music scene was less active, Joshua remained involved through event promotion, collaborations and support for local artists. These experiences strengthened his ties to the underground community and contributed to the thoughtful and measured style that characterises his work today.
Following a break from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed energy through Floating Beats, a radio show that evolved into a recognised platform for forward-thinking electronic music. The project provided an outlet for deeper musical exploration and helped further develop his narrative-driven approach to programming and performance.
Velvety Elements emerged as a natural extension of that vision, focusing specifically on the warmer and more soulful side of house music. The series explores flowing grooves, rich musical textures and understated energy, creating journeys that favour depth and continuity over immediate impact.
Joshua's studio output continues across several aliases, including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam. Each project allows him to explore different areas of electronic music, from Deep House and melodic compositions to hypnotic techno, dub-influenced productions and more experimental sounds.
Recent releases as Joshua Marian have reinforced his growing catalogue of Deep House productions. Tracks including Just Love, Express Your Voice, Ring For More, Go Slow, I'm Not A New Kid and Sometimes I Think About showcase warm grooves, subtle melodies and carefully balanced arrangements. Releases on labels such as Yesenia, Jazz In Da House, Agua Salada Records and Wanda continue to highlight his commitment to soulful and atmospheric house music.
Under the K Joshua alias, his work moves towards deeper and more experimental territory. Projects including Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and As You Are on Liberty Rhythm explore Raw / Deep / Hypnotic Techno, Dub Techno, Minimal / Deep Tech and Ambient influences through immersive atmospheres, hypnotic repetition and detailed sound design. Releases such as Slow Laziness and Walk Slow further demonstrate the diversity of his creative output.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent platform for his own music and collaborative projects. The label continues to grow as a home for underground electronic music, creative freedom and long-term artistic development while supporting both established and emerging producers.
Through Velvety Elements, DJ Joshua brings together the many strands of his musical journey. Each episode blends Deep House warmth, soulful grooves and subtle electronic experimentation into a cohesive listening experience, reflecting decades of dedication to underground music and a continuing desire to evolve as both a DJ and producer.
Velvety Elements 317 by DJ Joshua opens with D'Julz and Nudeep, immediately setting a groove-led House Music atmosphere before Black Eyes continues the momentum through Wisdom Of The Stingrays. Kevin Yost introduces deeper melodic textures with Opposites, while Alton Miller's Can't Master brings classic House influences into the early part of the mix.
DJ Deep's Sunday Loop and Franck Roger's Can U Believe guide the programme further into Deep House territory with warm basslines, subtle percussion and soulful underground energy. Reedale Rise continues the flowing atmosphere through Heliopolis, maintaining the smooth late-night character of the session.
The mood shifts slightly through Slugg's Gas In My Blunt, introducing stripped-back Minimal and Deep Tech elements before DJ Sneak restores a warmer House-influenced groove with Lake Fishin. The contrast between deeper rhythms and classic House sensibilities gives the middle section a balanced underground feel.
David Böning's Joes Groove keeps the House momentum moving before G-Falex delivers another rich Deep House moment through Lemonade For Gods. Franco Musachi closes the episode with 0011 in the Javier Labarca remix, ending the session with a refined Minimal and Deep Tech groove that perfectly complements the deeper sounds heard throughout the programme.
Tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it, the replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
