Velvety Elements returns with a new edition hosted by DJ Joshua on Scientific Sound Asia. The platform operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, while also publishing music news and connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of commitment to underground sound and DJ culture.
Although his musical journey has spanned techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music has remained central to his artistic identity. His sets focus on groove, soul and emotional depth, maintaining a consistent connection to both classic and contemporary house influences.
During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground movement, he remained active by organising events and collaborating with fellow artists. These efforts helped sustain a resilient local scene while strengthening his role within the community.
After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed direction through his online radio show, Floating Beats. The series developed into a recognised platform for melodic and forward-thinking electronic music.
Velvety Elements followed as a complementary project, focusing on deeper and more soulful interpretations of house. The show explores warm textures and flowing structures, reflecting a more introspective and refined side of his musical approach.
Working under aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore multiple creative directions. Each project highlights a different aspect of his sound, from minimal grooves to melodic and cinematic compositions.
Recent releases under the Joshua Marian alias reinforce his commitment to Deep House. Tracks such as Just Love, Express Your Voice, Ring For More and Go Slow present groove-led structures with subtle melodic phrasing and a steady rhythmic flow. Releases on labels including Yesenia, Jazz In Da House, Agua Salada Records and Wanda reflect a consistent focus on musical depth and balance.
In contrast, his K-Joshua material explores a darker and more experimental edge. Projects such as Promised Work on Kopoc and Stranger Things on dublucid move into Raw / Deep / Hypnotic Techno and dub-influenced territory, built around repetition, texture and atmosphere. Releases like Slow Laziness and Walk Slow further expand into Minimal / Deep Tech and Ambient directions, showing the breadth of his production range.
In 2024, he launched JFLM Recordings as a platform for his own productions while supporting underground artists. The label continues to develop as an outlet for both solo work and collaborations, reinforcing his ongoing commitment to independent electronic music.
Through Velvety Elements, DJ Joshua brings these influences together into a cohesive format. Each episode reflects a carefully structured journey, combining deep house foundations with broader sonic exploration, while maintaining a clear focus on groove, flow and emotional connection.
The set opens with Mick Jerome’s Dive Deeper, setting a smooth Deep House tone before Vincent Caira introduces a Jackin House groove with Ground Rules. Joshua Marian follows with Always On My Mind, adding a personal touch while maintaining the warm and flowing atmosphere.
Momentum builds through Desos and Byron The Aquarius, where Mikinokow and The Last Mile Of The Way blend House and Deep House elements into a steady groove. K Pod and C&M continue this direction with Big Pimpin and Inside, reinforcing the rhythm.
The middle section deepens with Alejandro Mosso’s Cascada and Joshua Marian’s Oily Gravity, both maintaining a consistent Deep House flow. Tuccillo adds further depth with Street Jungle, keeping the set smooth and groove-led.
An energy shift comes with Jay Tripwire’s Wall Punchr, introducing a Tech House edge that adds variation without disrupting the flow. Julius Strieder follows with Trimbal, bringing the set back into a deeper, more refined direction.
The closing stretch maintains a steady Deep House groove, rounding off a cohesive session. Across the mix, DJ Joshua delivers a balanced blend of Deep House and House Music, combining personal productions with carefully selected tracks to create a smooth and immersive journey.
Tune in to his live radio show on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch it, then the replay will be available on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
